Job overview

Governance Clerk to Local Governing Body

£13-15 per hour, 6 meetings a year, 13 hours per meeting

Term time only

The Local Governing Body of Bohunt School Liphook wish to appoint a highly organised, self-motivated and personable Governance Clerk to join the school as soon as possible.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our governance team, which will include access to regular team meetings and training. Successful candidates will have excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, and be able to work independently and organise their own time whilst working to strict deadlines. Because of the nature of this role, discretion and confidentiality are vital.

The role will include finalising agendas, organising paperwork, producing minutes, and providing advice to governors on procedural and legislative matters in accordance with our Trust’s governance approach and relevant statutory guidance and policy, under the guidance and support of the area Governance Co-ordinator.

A flexible approach to working hours is essential as the role involves some twilight / evening meetings which tend to cluster in certain weeks of term. Governance Clerks are based at home and must provide their own equipment to undertake this role. However, Governance Clerks are required to attend 6 meetings of the LGBs where these are held in person (these are held each half term with dates agreed a year in advance).

Your support of effective governance in the Trust will contribute towards the best outcomes for the students in the school you support.

Good computer and Microsoft software package skills and a willingness to become confident with Google drive are essential, as is the ability to work and communicate with a variety of stakeholders.  Previous governance experience in any capacity is helpful but not essential as full training will be given. You should also be interested in education and committed to the best interests of young people, as well as being able to deal with matters tactfully and confidentially.

If you feel you could contribute to our school’s success, please read the job description and complete the support staff application form. If you would like to discuss the role further, please contact recruitment@bohunt.hants.sch.uk or Raine Ryland, Director of Governance on 01428 724324 (ext 316).

TO APPLY:

Please read the job description  and complete the BET support staff application form. Please send your completed application form to recruitment@bohunt.hants.sch.uk.

Closing date: Monday 20 September 2021 at 12 noon.

Interview date: TBC

Start date:        ASAP

Bohunt School is a mixed 11-18 School and Sixth Form with more than 1800 students on roll. We are the state school of choice for the local area and draw students from the surrounding region, including the counties of Surrey and West Sussex.

In 2013 we were rated as Outstanding in all categories by Ofsted and in 2014 we were named ‘Overall School of the Year’ by the Times. Due to our heritage as a Specialist Language College our curriculum maintains a strong international flavour, including immersion language teaching in Mandarin and French. We are a busy and vibrant school with high expectations and aspirations for all members of our learning community.

Bohunt School became founder of the Bohunt Education Trust (BET) in 2014.

BET is ambitious. Beyond running its individual schools highly successfully, we aim to transform education in Britain by sharing the experiences, insights and methods we’ve pioneered in own schools.

Teach at BET

BET recognises and nurtures your skills, talents and sense of vocation. As a BET teacher, you’ll be encouraged to explore and extend your own practice, through our innovative teaching methods and partnerships with business and industry. You’ll also enjoy fantastic opportunities for professional and subject-specific training and development to enhance both the classroom experience for your students and your own career progression.

Enjoy: At Bohunt enjoyable learning takes place in a stimulating, vibrant environment and within a framework of high expectation.

Respect: We promote a strong sense of self-worth combined with a respect for others. Consistently high expectations are embedded within an environment that is founded on mutually respectful relationships between students, staff and parents

Achieve: We are proud of our academic success and are one of the top performing state schools in the country. Our personalised curriculum provides students with an equality of opportunity that ensures all learners achieve, whatever their interests and strengths.

Bohunt School exists to meet the educational needs of all its students. Central to our philosophy is a belief that each individual is capable of making a positive and significant contribution to society.

Sixth Form

Bohunt Sixth Form opened in September 2017 in purpose built accommodation surrounded by open countryside, a short walk away from the main school. Bohunt Sixth Form offers inspirational opportunities for those who relish intellectual challenge, and support from expert staff who know students well.

Community

We are proud to serve our community by providing for its leisure, learning and social needs; our facilities are extensive and impressive and include squash courts, a floodlit artificial turf pitch and changing pavilion, a fully equipped fitness room and a sports hall.

TESLA

We are a lead school in the TESLA Teaching School Alliance which is a partnership of educators who have the highest expectations and are striving to achieve exceptional education for all by removing barriers to learning, challenging established pedagogy and raising aspirations. TESLA offers a growing range of bespoke continuing professional development and leadership development courses, from newly and recently qualified teachers, to aspiring Headteachers. As a lead school for School Direct, we provide excellent Initial Teacher Training in collaboration with a wide number of Higher Education Institutions

We are a close-knit team here at Bohunt School, all dedicated to seeing the students under our care thrive, develop and succeed. Everyone brings their own gifts, talents, personality and experience to their role, helping to sustain our rich and diverse learning culture.
