Job overview

Governance Officer

SCP Point 24 (£33,024.00). (Pro rata salary for this role will be based on actual hours per week and can be discussed at interview)

Flexible hours to suit the right candidate between 20 and 25, but open to negotiation, based on your circumstances. Term time only, with scope for some hours to be worked, if required, over a holiday period.

We are seeking a dynamic, highly efficient and self-motivated Governance Officer to join our Academy Trust to support governance and leadership at our very ambitious school. You will work closely with the Chair of Trustees and Executive Head to help develop the strategic work of the school, particularly linked to governance and compliance. Linked to this, you will help to plan, support and minute meetings of the governing body, as well as ensuring that action points are followed-through. Within the flexible hours per week, an emphasis will be placed on the strategic impact the role can have during the working day, and you will have an office to support you with this work. In addition to the ‘Company Secretary’ aspect of the role, you will also ensure that we are fulfilling our legal obligations and, where required, will seek legal advice.

You don’t have to be a professionally qualified clerk but you may have experience of supporting and administering governance, as well as some experience of supporting the strategic development of an organisation. Experience of a school environment would be an advantage, but it is certainly not essential, and you may well have a background in business. More than anything, we are after someone who has drive, has a ‘can do’ approach to their work, and is detailed and precise. You will have good IT skills and you will be able to make sense of and minute complex school business accurately. You will be able to deal with confidential matters and will have excellent interpersonal skills. In exchange, we can promise you a varied and interesting role, flexible hours, a supportive environment and opportunities for training and development, including some strategic project management work. We will also support you with professional training and qualifications linked to this role.

For the right person, this is a very exciting opportunity to be part of a highly innovative school.

The school is an equal opportunities employer and committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and therefore expects all staff and volunteers, to share this same commitment. We particularly welcome applications from under represented groups including ethnicity, gender, transgender, age, disability, sexual orientation or religion. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check

Please apply using our application form available from our website

Closing date: Friday 17th May at 9am.

Two Hedges Road, Bishop’s Cleeve, Cheltenham GL52 8AE

We are a rapidly growing, values-driven school, that places staff training and development at the heart of everything we do. By getting this right, we know the education offer for our students will be exceptional.

Student outcomes are becoming stronger and stronger and our partnerships with some highly esteemed industry-based partners and the broader educational sector are truly transformational because they open doors to a rich eco-system of networking, opportunity and development.

Our Sixth Form Centre of Excellence cost in excess of £5 million and we have now built a £1 million Training Centre, which further underlines our vision for growth, opportunity and excellence. We are on a wonderful journey. Come and join us!

Alwyn Richards; Executive Head.

Ofsted

“The overall achievement of students is good, and outstanding for some. It is outstanding for those students who need extra help and in some subjects, including mathematics. Students’ achievement in English and in the sixth form is good and improving.”

“Much teaching in all subjects and in the sixth form is at least good, with a significant proportion that is outstanding.”
