Benenden School seeks a talented, motivated and engaging musician who will play a full role in the life of the busy Music Department. 

This post is an excellent opportunity to pursue and deepen your love for and understanding of Music by passing on your skills and enthusiasm to the young people in the beautiful, supportive and nurturing environment of our prestigious girls’ boarding school. The post would suit a graduate considering teaching but would also be an excellent preparation for a number of different musical careers because of the range of creative, logistical, communication and teamwork opportunities. 

The key responsibilities are to accompany pupils of all ages and abilities in concerts and exams, and to work with the Music Scholars in weekly individual sessions. The role may also involve the accompanying of ensembles, working with Chamber groups, teaching theory and aural, and helping to organise music practice for the younger girls.

No week is the same at the School. It is expected that the post holder will get involved in the Music Department’s many different events and endeavours, as well as using his/her interests and expertise to bring new initiatives to the School which will benefit the Benenden pupils.

This is a term-time position for an initial period of one year, which may be extended to two depending on the needs of the business. A highly competitive salary in the region of £16-18,000 will be paid, determined by knowledge and experience. 

Single accommodation may be available in support of evening and weekend duties to be agreed with the Director of Music.

Benenden is one of the leading boarding schools in Britain. We were founded in 1923 and are situated in 250 acres of attractive parkland in Kent. There are 555 girls in the school, aged 11-18. Benenden is at the forefront of girls’ education in the UK, with recent innovations including the Benenden Diploma, a bespoke curriculum for our youngest two year groups, and the Professional Skills Programme, teaching the Sixth Form skills for the workplace. We are an ambitious school, with recent developments including a state-of-the-art Science Centre and All-Weather Sports Pitch, and we are currently working to establish a new School Hall and Music School.

Meals are provided to staff whilst on duty. The School’s leisure facilities, including a fitness gym and swimming pool are available for staff to use.
