Job overview

Uppingham School seeks to appoint an emotionally and spiritually mature graduate chaplaincy assistant for the academic year 2023 – 24.

The role is likely to appeal to graduates who are looking to develop the broad range of pastoral and teaching skills needed for Christian ministry. Uppingham’s foundation is Anglican and the worshipping life of the Chapel follows this tradition. The graduate chaplaincy assistant should be sympathetic to the ethos and traditions of the Church of England, but applicants from any Christian denomination will be welcomed.

Applications are welcome from graduates in any subject. Some classroom teaching may be offered.

Applications are welcome from candidate who also wish to play a role in other areas of School life, for example contributing to the varied sports programme or the rich musical life of the School.  The role could also be combined with a teacher training qualification for the right candidate.

Accommodation is available.

Closing date:  Wednesday 7 June.

Interviews:  Wednesday 14 June.

Uppingham School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.

All positions at the School are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, therefore ALL convictions, cautions, reprimands and final warnings (including those which would normally be considered ‘spent’ under the Act) MUST be declared, subject to the DBS filtering rules. Creative abilities are well developed and their exploration of ideas is particularly marked in their enrichment activities. Pupils’ study habits are good. In the lessons observed, pupils worked very well with each other, and also worked well independently. They enjoy their work and this stems in part from the good-natured atmosphere in lessons.
