Apex 2100 are seeking to offer a Strength & Conditioning (S&C) Graduate experience for Autumn 2020. It is an opportunity to work in an elite sports academy that aspires to be the best ski academy in the world. The Academy has been developed under the Vision of the Director of Sport, Sir Clive Woodward, who plays an active role in the academy and is fully committed to its success. The academy aims to develop a world-class ski and education programme that will produce future Olympic and World Cup champions. The role will be to ensure the service effectively meets its commitments to athletes, coaches, medical staff, parents, and wider departmental staff. The successful candidate will support the Head of S&C to meet the growing demands of the service. 

The successful candidate must possess a professional qualification in Strength & Conditioning. They will be pragmatic, self-motivated and have the ability to develop a diverse skill-set and knowledge base to meet the broad requirements of this role which will include ensuring performance impact of athletes, rehabilitation and reconditioning, and athletic development. 

The experience programme at Apex 2100 is entering its second year. This is an exciting opportunity for an aspiring practitioner to develop their applied coaching, testing and programming skills for a career in strength & conditioning and/or injury rehabilitation.

Experience may include:

  • Deliver S&C coaching to Apex 2100 athletes as set out by the Head of S&C. This could be at different times and days depending on the race programme and athlete schedule.
  • Deliver content from the performance programme and help tutor and supervise the athletes’ projects in this innovative area.
  • Work as part of the pastoral team to help supervise and care for the young athletes.
  • Supervise athlete academic time in the Library.
  • Contribute to the running of the academy, including a weekly KP shift in the kitchens.
  • Within the rules of professional confidentiality, liaise with the Head of S&C, Coaches, Medical Lead and Performance Director on the progress of athletes. 
  • Work closely with the Performance Director, to deliver education in the area of performance.
  • At times you may be required to be present during ski training sessions to assist a coach to optimise targeted adaptations as well as warm up/cool down processes. 
  • You may be asked to attend races to assist a coach and help supervise the athletes.
  • Receive and convey information given by the physiotherapist, medical lead and head of S&C on individual pupil needs to reduce risk of injury, optimise athlete availability and maximise health and performance. 
  • Conduct testing sessions and assist with data collection, management and effective dissemination of this information to all key stakeholders. 
  • Create athlete friendly educational resources (i.e. infographics) and deliver both formal and informal education to athletes around our key themes of ‘TRAIN’ and ‘PERFORM’ and evaluate their progress through behavioural milestones.
  • Assist in the management and delivery of sports injury rehab clinics, and maintain an indexed database of all work conducted / progress of injured pupils in line with our reconditioning and return to play processes. 
  • Assist in the design and implementation of a physical development curriculum for Apex 2100 that reflects scientific principles as they relate to growth, maturation and athletic development. 
  • Create, build and sustain effective working relationships with all key parties to ensure effective, regular communication and to develop an understanding about the roles and benefits of S&C. 
  • Act as a point of contact for expert advice on all areas of health and fitness for all athletes/staff and the wider community. 
  • Assist in maintaining the facility and conduct weekly maintenance checks of equipment. 
  • Be of ‘added value’ to wider school business wherever possible (i.e. admissions, pastoral, education teams.
