Rickmansworth School is judged to be an outstanding school. We are a 11-18 heavily oversubscribed co-educational partially (35%) selective academy with around 1540 students on roll, increasing to around 1575 students over the next year, with numbers in the Sixth Form reaching 315. Academic results are strong at KS4 and KS5 with the vast majority of students securing their first choice university destinations. 

The School is in a very strong, stable financial position with over £6M recently spent on school expansion including a new Sixth-form centre, performing arts theatres and an Innovation & Design Centre. About you:

This is an exciting opportunity for candidates who are looking at careers in teaching or in the education sector. If you are looking to develop your classroom skills and implement change in an educational setting by supporting students, this role will appeal to you. We are looking for well qualified, aspirational graduates with a Biochemistry (or similar) degree (2:1 or higher) who want to be a part of our outstanding school.

About the role:

This newly created position will be responsible for supporting students outside of their regular timetabled lessons. The support will take the form of small groups or one to one sessions with students being guided, stretched and challenged. 

You will work under the guidance of our Sixth Form Director. There are currently six members of the Sixth Form team who provide great mentorship and a unique learning experience for students.

For the right candidate, there may be the opportunity to complete an in school teacher training qualification which could lead to Qualified Teacher Status.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have an excellent understanding in their subject area
  • Support the Sixth Form and Senior Leadership Team in meeting whole school priorities and realising the School’s shared vision
  • Offer subject specific intervention for students, to support learning outside of lessons
  • Work with the most able students to stretch and challenge them further
  • Ensure that Sixth Form students make good progress in line with the School’s expectations.
  • Support the Sixth Form in extra-curricular provision
  • Engage and empower students with the skills to thrive as independent learners
