Job Purpose: Providing administrative and general support to the Prep Music Department

Tenure: 1 year fixed-term, Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 36 weeks of the year


Key Responsibilities:


Individual Student and Classroom Support

  • Classroom assistance for all year groups as required
  • Supporting the department outreach initiatives, including Toddler Music and visits in the local area.
  • Assisting and challenging our students to understand and fulfil their ambitions in the subject, both in and outside the classroom

 

Co-curricular support

  • Assisting with ensembles rehearsals – sectional rehearsals, playing/singing as required
  • Activities, including assisting music theory sessions up to Grade 5
  • Liaising with the Director of Music about concert planning, repertoire, and rehearsal schedules
  • Leading ensembles. Accompanying and/or playing/singing to support the students and practical music making,

 

Administrative Support

  • Creating and maintaining accurate documents and records pertaining to the music department
  • Creating and maintaining a music library and instrument database
  • Liaising with the Director of Music, other teaching staff, parents, and students as necessary
  • Carrying out a full range of general administration tasks, including but not limited to:
  • Providing administrative support to the Prep Music Department
  • Attending weekly department meetings
  • Maintaining ensemble attendance records
  • Organising and Cataloguing Music Department resources
  • Maintaining and updating the music notice boards
  • Producing Music Concert Programmes
  • Attending and assisting with concerts and other musical events

 


Person Specification


The successful candidate will be likely to fit the following profile:

  • A passion for music
  • Specialism in one or more musical instruments (a specialism in Voice would be preferred)
  • A desire to be part of a busy and successful department
  • Experience in performing as a soloist and in ensembles
  • Knowledge of Music ICT, such as GarageBand and Sibelius or similar
  • Excellent organisational, administrative and ICT skills
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Professional telephone manner
  • High standards of personal presentation
  • A warm and approachable manner
  • Personal and professional integrity and the ability to be discreet
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and to prioritise effectively, responding to both proactive and reactive demands
  • A proactive and flexible approach
  • A team player with leadership qualities
  • Positive, enthusiastic and energetic approach to life, with a can-do attitude
  • Ability to think creatively and imaginatively
