We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, dynamic and highly-motivated Graduate of Music. This role would suit an individual who is interested in the teaching profession and has a suitable degree in music. The role would present opportunities to teach across all age and ability levels and contribute to an expanding and busy department. We will do our upmost to support and nurture you as you take on teaching responsibilities. You will be taught how to adapt teaching for a wide age range, from nursery and A-level, and any specific learning needs.

The Music Department at Saint Felix School is part of the Creative Arts Faculty and offers an exciting range of musical opportunities for students of all abilities. Students benefit from classroom and individual instrument and vocal lessons from nursery to sixth form.

The prep and senior department classrooms have a variety of instruments, including a samba instruments set, two African drum sets, class sets of ukuleles, guitars, keyboards, a range of tuned and untuned percussion. The senior department has practice rooms with upright pianos in each and a small music technology suite with Apple macs. Students enjoy practicing in our chapel with the Samick grand piano.

Saint Felix School is an independent co-educational day and boarding school for children aged from 2 – 19, located close to the glorious seaside town of Southwold on the Suffolk coast. Our aim is to develop well-rounded students with the skills and the personality to make a success of their lives during and after their school years.

Boarding is at the heart of the school and all full-time members of staff are expected to contribute to the wider life of the school through involvement in the tutoring system and in activities outside the classroom.

We are looking for a Music graduate who will be able to demonstrate the following;

  • To be a part of the developing vision of the department through the delivery of effective lessons and exciting musical opportunities throughout the school.
  • To teach year groups across the age and ability range as agreed with the Head of Department.
  • To have up-to-date knowledge of, arrange and prepare pupils for instrumental and school examinations as appropriate.
  • Ensure assessment, curriculum coverage, continuity and progression in the subject for pupils of all ages and abilities, including special educational needs and English as an additional language.
  • To ensure that pupils are taught according to their individual needs and abilities, following the programmes of study set by the School and Department.
  • Plan lessons thoroughly and to employ teaching strategies that engenders enthusiasm and raises the aspirations of all pupils.
  • Update records of attendance and achievement and progress of all pupils, including formative and summative assessment.
  • To complete reports on pupils, including attending parents’ evenings.
  • To maintain high standards of discipline in the classroom so that there is an atmosphere conducive to learning.


You will be joining a strong department where results are excellent. This position would suit a recent graduate or someone graduating in 2024. If you are looking to train to teach in the future too this would be an ideal first step into working in a school. Experience of working in a school environment would be looked upon favourably as would experience of developing young people a coaching or tutoring environment.

About Saint Felix School

Saint Felix, Southwold has been providing educational excellence for 120 years. A co-educational independent school for boarders and day pupils from the ages of 2 to 18.

Boarding at Saint Felix caters for full, weekly and flexi-boarders between the ages of 9-18 in three boarding houses situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Suffolk coast.
