Job overview
Dorset House School is a small, thriving prep school for boys and girls aged 4-13, located in a beautiful, rural location in West Sussex. We pride ourselves on providing children with a real childhood and for being a haven for learning, adventure and discovery. We are innovative, forward-thinking and ambitious for our pupils. Our over-arching principle is to “Be the best you can be”.
For more information about the school, please visit our website – www.dorsethouseschool.com
We are offering an exciting opportunity for a talented post-graduate musician to work in an independent prep school rated excellent in all areas at our latest ISI inspection. Music plays a central role in the life of the school where over 95% of children learn at least one instrument. The Kodály philosophy informs much of how Music is taught.
The position would suit someone considering music teaching as a career who is seeking hands-on experience, perhaps prior to commencing a PGCE or similar teacher training. This could potentially be undertaken at Dorset House. A recognised Music degree and strong keyboard skills are required for the post.
The successful applicant will have an opportunity to work with our students from Reception to Y8 in a classroom setting, as well as ensembles, orchestras and choirs. There will also be the chance to work to areas of strength and create groups accordingly. Within the Music department you will also assist with some administration and organising of concerts, plays etc. More widely, you will be expected to participate fully in the life of a busy school. This includes assistance with boarding and in other curriculum areas.
If you are able to show initiative and have a committed and flexible approach, with the ability to relate to and engage with students of all abilities and ages we would be thrilled to hear from you.
Dorset House School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
