Job overview

The Post

The School is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual for the role of Graduate Sports Assistant. This position is ideal for someone wishing to gain experience in a school environment where sport plays a key role.

Successful candidates will be given an opportunity to provide support and participate in timetabled PE lessons. They will also have coaching responsibilities in lessons, during lunch time and after school clubs, and on match days: specialist knowledge of swimming, gymnastics, hockey or any other sports discipline is essential. Further responsibilities include equipment management, administrative support within the department and some facilities management duties.

The School

King Edward VI High School for Girls (KEHS) is one of the most successful girls’ schools in this country with outstanding academic results and a large programme of extra-curricular activity.  The school is an independent day school with over 600 girls aged 11-18 and is part of the King Edward VI Foundation, which has eight schools in Birmingham. It is situated on a beautiful 50 acre campus in Edgbaston, which it shares with King Edward’s School.  It is only three miles from Birmingham city centre and has excellent transport access by road and rail (the University train station is only a 10 minute walk).

The KEHS Sports Department

Sport plays a very important part in school life and the school aims to provide excellence and high levels of participation for all: our best teams compete at national level but it is important to us that our curriculum sport is inclusive and our extra curricular activities are a place where the girls can flourish.

The school has outstanding outdoor facilities: 5 netball courts, 7 tennis courts, a grass field for football, rounders and athletics as well as two all weather hockey pitches. Our indoor facilities are of a similar high standard, boasting a large sports hall, a dance studio, a fully equipped fitness suite and an indoor swimming pool.

The PE department currently consists of three full-time members of staff, all of whom have played sport at a high level, a PE Assistant and several part-time professional coaches. Every girl has the opportunity to experience a huge variety of sporting activities, from the diverse core curriculum to the wide range of extra curricular activities. The major team sports are hockey and netball; with over 100 fixtures each season but in recent years our rowing, swimming and gymnastics teams have developed and are showing huge potential for success.
