Job overview

This is a fixed term role from Wednesday 30 August 2017 for 11 months.

William Perkin Church of England High School opened in September 2013 with its first intake of Year 7 students and now has four year groups (7, 8, 9 and 10) totalling around 775 students. We have had an incredibly positive journey so far and are rated ‘Outstanding’ in all areas by Ofsted (June 2015) and SIAMS (October 2016).

We are looking to appoint Sports Assistants to join our ‘Outstanding’ school as we move into our fifth year. The role would suit someone who is passionate about sport and who may be considering a career in teaching. This is a varied role, and tasks include coaching and running sports teams, officiating fixtures, assisting PE staff with the delivery of lessons and with games administration, and assisting with the implementation of the Community Sport Programme.

Students have a 100 minute ‘Core Elective’ session each week (afternoons) where they have additional time to learn new skills and apply them in full game situations. This 100 minute lesson - along with many ‘extended elective’ sessions after school - has helped create an outstanding offer of sport at the school. We have outstanding facilities including a full size floodlit 3G astroturf, 3 netball court floodlit MUGA, 4 badminton court sports hall, along with grass pitches and a cricket square.

This role represents an unusually interesting opportunity for someone with enthusiasm and relevant experience to join a talented and successful team, in a growing school, at a very exciting time in its development.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A sport based degree or have played sport to a high level (desirable)
  • Familiarity with at least one of our main sports (Football/Cricket/Rugby/Netball) (essential)
  • Aspirations to teach PE or progress along a coaching pathway (desirable)
  • A level 2 coaching qualification (desirable)
  • Ability to be reflective and driven towards self-improvement
  • Energy and enthusiasm
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent administrative and organisation skills
  • Ability to work as part of a busy team
  • A UK drivers licence (desirable)
  • A commitment to the ethos of the school.

We offer:

  • Positive working relationships at all levels
  • Connections to a number of high level sport organisations in London
  • Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme.
