The role

The role of a Girls' Games teacher at Sandroyd is a dynamic and rewarding opportunity, ideal for graduates who are passionate about sports and education, and eager to contribute to a thriving school community. This position offers the chance to become deeply involved in the daily life of a busy boarding school, extending far beyond typical teaching duties.

Overview of Responsibilities

As a Girls' Games teacher, you will report directly to the Director of Sports and play a crucial role in coaching and mentoring pupils across a variety of sports. The primary focus will be on coaching hockey, netball and cricket, with opportunities to also engage with football and tennis. Your week will be filled with coaching tasks, ranging from delivering training sessions every weekday to supporting both junior and senior teams.

Engagement and Development

A significant part of your role will involve taking full responsibility for at least one team each term. This includes not just training the pupils but also managing their participation in matches, which means travelling to away games and hosting home matches. Additionally, you may be asked to provide tailored one-on-one coaching to individuals who need specific guidance or want to develop particular skills.

Contribution to School Life

Given Sandroyd’s status as a seven-day-a-week boarding school, your role will extend into various aspects of school life. This includes performing duties in boarding houses during the week days, where you’ll help create a supportive and nurturing environment for all pupils. This aspect of the role is particularly rewarding, as it allows for deeper connections with pupils and a more comprehensive educational impact.

Skills and Qualifications

While you need not be an expert in all, or indeed any, of the primary sports (hockey, netball, cricket), it is your willingness to coach and engage with these sports that is crucial. Sandroyd values enthusiasm and a proactive attitude highly, and is committed to providing training to ensure you can deliver high-quality coaching in these sports.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be personable, warm, and dynamic, capable of earning the trust of both children and adults. Good communication and organisational skills are essential, as is the flexibility to meet the varied needs of the role. Strong relationship-building skills will help you foster a collaborative atmosphere among staff and parents, enhancing the educational experience for all pupils.

This role is perfect for graduates looking to make a significant impact in their early career, offering a comprehensive platform for professional development in a supportive and vibrant educational setting. It may also suit an individual that is looking to work whilst studying for a degree, or post graduate qualification.
