There are currently three academies within the Trust: The Sixth Form College Farnborough, Tomlinscote School and Frimley Church of England Junior School.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Graphic Design Team within an outstanding Sixth Form College. We are seeking a proactive individual to provide an excellent level of support to both staff and students in the College.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and well-qualified graduate able to teach Graphic Design.

The Curriculum Area of Graphic Design

The College seeks to appoint an enthusiastic teacher able to teach Graphic Design in a large and highly successful art and design curriculum area. The Art and Design department has over 750 students studying Fine Art, Photography, Textiles and Graphic Design. There are currently 338 students studying Graphic Design.

Graphic Design is taught by a team of five specialist teachers with technician support in an outstanding department where staff have a mix of vocational and academic experience and qualifications. The department is equipped with industry standard technology - all Graphic classrooms are Apple iMac suites.

Beyond the curriculum, commissions are often worked on by the students, including contributions to national art exhibitions and designs for local schools and businesses. Results are regularly in the top 25% nationally and the students rate the course and the close support they receive from the dedicated team very highly. This highly motivational and aspirational environment ensures that all students, regardless of prior attainment, perform well. Undergraduate progression with those pursuing Graphics as their choice is high, with H.E destinations such as UCA, Bournemouth, Southampton, Portsmouth and Bath Spa regularly featuring amongst the students’ choices.    

The Post of Graphic Design tutor

We are looking for a teacher who displays the following characteristics:

  • A thoughtful and self-reflective approach to pedagogy;
  • A desire to be an outstanding classroom practitioner;
  • A passion for the subject;
  • Excellent ICT skills that makes learning visible in the classroom;
  • Excellent subject knowledge and a desire to build on this; and an
  • Enthusiasm for working with 16-19 year old students.

 

We welcome applications from ECTs to experienced professionals who may have developed their teaching practice in both 11-19 schools or 16-19 educational institutions in both the state & independent sectors. We are looking for a candidate who recognises the critical importance of developing our students’ literacy and numeracy skills and will implement this as an integral part of their teaching. We are also looking for a candidate with a proven track record of providing value added.

The successful applicant is expected to be flexible, not afraid to meet challenges, and innovative in their approach to curriculum delivery.

As a new member of staff you will receive plenty of support from your colleagues both from the department and from the wider college community. This will include:

  • a mentor to help you through the first year (in particular);
  • support from your curriculum manager and director of faculty; and
  • an extensive programme for all new staff to help induct you into College life as well as to develop your approach to teaching

We regard our staff as our most important resource and will do our utmost to support you throughout your time at the College.

For graduates we will organise and fund a teaching qualification - usually a Professional Certificate in Education programmes (Further Education and Skills Sector - FESS) through the University of Greenwich which is a long distance qualification gained after two years. At the end of these two years we can apply for you to get QTLS through the University of Greenwich. In addition we offer ECT status through The Xavier Hub and Teach First.

Since September 2017, The College has been part of The Prospect Trust, a multi-academy trust. The College had originally been a grammar school founded in 1936, becoming a full sixth form college in 1992. The college is co-educational, with over 3900 students aged 16-19. Since its establishment as a sixth form, the college has undergone extensive redevelopment and modernisation, and as a result can boast of a wide range of high-quality teaching and recreational facilities such as a brand-new purpose-built teaching block opened in 2010 containing teaching facilities for physics, electronics and photography among others. Around a third of the students at the college are on mixed programmes of study combining A levels and vocational courses. The college offers 33 A-level courses, with the largest being in psychology and mathematics. Of the 11 vocational courses, the largest are in criminology and business.
