Tadley Court School are recruiting for a Grounds Person to join their maintenance team. We are looking for a passionate handy-person and an enthusiastic DIYer, who will carry out reactive day-to-day maintenance issues within the site and their grounds. You will also assist in supporting our other homes in the community, liaising with contractors when on site and ad-hoc requests from management as and when necessary.

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Tadley Court school is set in a beautiful semi rural location with four acres of well maintained grounds. We are a day school specialising in the education and care of children and young people between the age of 4 and 19 years who are diagnosed as being on the autistic spectrum with associated learning difficulties. Our children and young people may also exhibit challenging behaviour as a result of their communication difficulties and lack of social understanding. We offer a safe, structured and predictable environment where students can develop the skills needed to live as independently as possible allowing them to make real life choices as they approach and reach adulthood.

The main duties are to ensures that the grounds and garden are maintained to high standards to assist the well-being, safety and comfort of pupils, children and young people.

The successful applicant will:

  • Maintain a safe and habitable environment throughout the schools gardens and grounds, in line with quality standards and ensures that work processes comply with statutory regulations
  • Undertake a variety of general maintenance jobs as required, with particular focus on the exterior of the building and the gardens/grounds
  • Identify and suggest improvements to the gardens and grounds – thereafter, actions as agreed
  • Liaise with local contractors on site, as required, providing local knowledge and guidance, in order that planned and preventative maintenance schedules can be completed in a timely fashion

We are seeking an individual who can work flexibly at key times of the year. For example, there will be a need to start work earlier in the event of winter weather conditions to ensure that all walkways and external areas are gritted before staff and children arrive on site. Duties will include leaf clearing and gritting to ensure that our site maintains all health & safety requirements. Longer term you would find yourself involved in planting, pruning, grass cutting, hedge trimming and everything that you would expect from grounds which have a large pond and wooded areas. If you would like to find out more detail, please contact Dianne Price on 0118 981 7720.

Ideally, you will have experience in some of the following areas: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, plastering (qualifications are not essential) along with the following characteristics:

Communication – During your role your working environment may involve interacting with our young people we support that may display varying degrees of emotional behavioural difficulties, autism, ADHD and associated difficulties

Organisation – As well as supervising the staff team, you’ll need to be confident and organised in record keeping, ensuring issues are logged on the internal computer systems and keeping up to date with routine maintenance checks.

Attentive – No two jobs will be the same so being attentive to understand them and identify areas where we can support is important.
