Job overview

St Mary's School Ascot

Head

The Chairman and Governors of St Mary’s School Ascot invite applications for the role of Head on the retirement of Mrs Mary Breen in August 2019, following twenty years of outstanding leadership.

Founded in 1885, St Mary’s School Ascot is one of the leading all girls boarding schools in the United Kingdom.  The School offers a broad and balanced education to 380 pupils, aged between 11 and 18, in 55 acres of beautiful grounds in the heart of Berkshire. Excellent academic standards combined with strong pastoral care and a breadth of co-curricular opportunities mean every pupil can achieve her academic and personal potential as part of a friendly, stable and caring community.

At the heart of St Mary’s lies a strong Roman Catholic ethos and the Governors are seeking to appoint a practising Catholic. The role offers a tremendous opportunity for an inspiring and caring leader with energy and ambition to take this exceptional school forwards.

Further information on the School can be found at www.st-marys-ascot.co.uk  and a candidate brief can be downloaded from www.odgers.com/66245

Letters of application and CVs should be sent by Friday 11 May to Odgers Berndtson quoting reference CFD/66245.

St Mary’s School Ascot is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

St Mary's School Ascot is a leading Roman Catholic girls' boarding school set in 55 acres of beautiful grounds in the heart of Berkshire. We are a friendly, stable and caring community, proud of our academic and sporting achievements and dedicated to bringing out the full potential of each of our 390 pupils. There are 120 pupils in the sixth form. We are committed to full boarding, with spaces for a few day pupils living nearby. We offer a stimulating range of co-curricular activities which take place in the evenings and throughout the weekend.

St Mary’s has a strong reputation as an academic school within the Catholic tradition. Entry to the school is selective. All pupils are expected to take 9 or 10 GCSEs, and almost all stay on for the Sixth Form to pursue their A Levels. Our leavers invariably go on to higher education, the vast majority to Russell Group universities or similar, including 10-15% to Oxbridge.
