Job overview

The Council of Management of Ruthin School is seeking to appoint a new Head from September 2022.

The post of Head at Ruthin School is a great opportunity for an inspiring leader in Wales’ oldest school.

Ruthin School is a selective, co-educational boarding and day school, set on the edge of the charming Denbighshire town with expansive views to the Clwydian range of hills.

With a reputation of being unashamedly academic, the school offers an excellent academic education and first-class pastoral care, with a broad and stimulating extra-curricular programme. The school sends around 12% of students to Oxford or Cambridge and typically over 80% go on to Russell Group universities.

Looking forward to an exciting future after a period of change, the Head will lead this exceptional school with vision and energy.

The Council of Management is seeking a strategically-minded and dynamic educator to guide the school and develop its potential. The successful candidate will have a strong academic background and a commitment to a strong safeguarding culture. This will be combined with experience of senior leadership in a boarding school, possibly in a Welsh school, as the future Head will be expected to embrace running a school in Wales, as well understanding the global education context.

If you believe you have the necessary skills and experience to lead this wonderful establishment and shape the future direction for Ruthin School, we would greatly welcome your application.

Further information about Ruthin School can be found on our School website and any interested candidates are invited to a confidential discussion with the Chair or Bursar. This can be arranged by contacting bursar@ruthinschool.co.uk

Covering letters and application forms should be submitted by 23.59 on Sunday 5th December 2021.

Ruthin School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the DBS.

Our vision: study; thrive; succeed
