Job overview

This is one of the most exciting opportunities a prep school Head could have – the chance to take over a large, top-performing boys’ prep school, then to move it into a brand-new purpose-built campus with state-of-the-art resources.

Durston House is an exceptional school with 400 boys aged 4 to 13, with a long history of academic success and a particularly happy, friendly and inclusive atmosphere.  It has grown steadily over the last 130 years and enjoys a very strong reputation throughout West London as a major feeder to top senior schools.

The school is planning to move from its three separate sites in Ealing Broadway to a completely new development on one of its two large playing fields.  This will bring the whole school together on a single site with a wealth of additional facilities, giving a unique opportunity to develop the educational offering in new and different ways.  In short, the new school will allow us to offer a truly amazing education and to take our already excellent teaching to even greater heights.

We are looking for a special person who can make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to re-define one of London’s leading prep schools.  You’ll be joining us in September 2020 when our current Head, Ian Kendrick, retires, in time to use your vision and ideas to oversee the commissioning of the new buildings, then to lead the school community into its new home in September 2021.

A comprehensive reward package is on offer, including an excellent salary, family accommodation, and a range of other benefits.

Full details and an application form can be downloaded from this page or from the school website, www.durstonhouse.org, where further information is available.  Simon Shneerson is advising the Governors on this appointment and will be happy to answer questions, to discuss the school and the role, and to offer impartial and confidential advice before you apply.  His telephone number is 07986 100237 or he can be e-mailed at info@simonshneerson.com.

Closing date for applications: 11 am on Tuesday, 30th April

Longlist interviews: Thursday 9th and Friday 10th May (choice of dates)

Shortlist interviews: Friday 24th May

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects its entire staff to share its commitment.  The successful applicant will be subject to child protection screening, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.  Durston House is an Equal Opportunities Employer.
