Job overview

École des Roches is one of Europe’s leading private co-educational day and boarding schools.  Founded in 1899 by sociologist Edmond Demolins, École des Roches now educates around 350 students aged 6-18 from over 50 different nationalities on a picturesque 150 acre campus in the heart of the beautiful Normandy countryside, approximately an hour from Paris.

The School has a strong reputation for outstanding educational principles that are focused on universal and humanist values.  École des Roches is a nurturing, caring multi-cultural family environment that provides students with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in a global society.

Students enjoy an all-round, holistic education developing excellent academic skills and an appreciation of art, culture and sports.  In the Primary and Middle Schools, the School offers a classic French education in a bilingual environment, with dedicated teachers and small class sizes.  In the High School, students have the option to study either the French Baccalaureate or the IB Diploma Programme.  Graduates attend the world’s most prestigious universities and colleges, and many of today’s most influential and recognisable business leaders are former students of École des Roches.

École des Roches is now looking for an outstanding Head who can sustain and promote the ethos and values of the School and provide inspirational and developmental leadership.  The Head will hold responsibility for all activities related to the effective strategic and operational management of the School including teaching and learning, pastoral care and financial management.

The successful candidate will have a strong track record of academic leadership and management, excellent communication skills, and the integrity, warmth and vision needed to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment.

École des Roches is proud to be a member of Bellevue Education, a leading world class schools group educating over 4000 students across the UK, Switzerland, France and Qatar.  Bellevue’s mission is to achieve academic excellence in an innovative and supportive learning environment.  In 2018, Bellevue took a further step towards this vision and mission by joining the GEMS group.

Founded in 1899 by the sociologist Edmond Demolins, École des Roches is an exclusive co-educational day and boarding school located in the small town of Verneuil-sur-Avre, in the heart of the beautiful Normandy countryside. We welcome students aged from 6 years to 18 years of age to our Primary, Middle and High school.

We have educated generations of illustrious students over the years. Our education philosophy is as innovative as it was one hundred years ago. Based on universal and deeply humanist values, we work with each and every student to promote their love of learning, awaken their intellectual curiosity, and develop them today to prepare for the rest of their lives.

Against the backdrop of an expansive and beautiful campus approximately an hour from Paris, and built on the foundations of an unrivalled heritage, École des Roches is now entering a period of ambitious growth and development not only in terms of its curricular and pastoral provision but also in terms of its physical facilities for teaching and learning and for boarding.

Underpinning everything that we do, is the aim that each pupil not only gets fulfilment and enjoyment from their school years but leaves the school with an understanding and value of self and with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed at university and in the wider world. That success depends not only on high academic and extra-curricular achievement but also on having acquired the necessary human skills and values that will enable them to operate in a global society.

The responsibility for nurturing the development and well-being of each individual pupil in this way extends beyond the classroom and our ambitions for the education of our pupils can only be fully realised through working effectively in a spirit of partnership between home and school.

École des Roches is part of the GEMS Education global network of schools providing innovative education programmes in 250 schools worldwide.
