Catholic, co-educational, day, 762 pupils aged 4–18

St Columba’s College is an independent, co-educational Catholic day school in St Albans in Hertfordshire. It offers an education of the ‘head and heart’, striving for academic excellence whilst focusing on the development of character and skills to equip young people for the future.

The key qualities of Courage, Courtesy and Compassion are nurtured at the College, which aims to send individuals out into the world who are resilient, confident and committed to the service of others.

St Columba’s is at an exciting stage in its development, having taken the decision to welcome girls in 2021. There are now girls in the Lower Prep (Reception and Years 1 and 2) and in the Lower Sixth, and a phased transition to full co-education is underway, with girls admitted into Year 7 from this September.

The College is an independent Catholic school in the tradition of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart. As such, it is part of an international network that spans more than 30 countries. It is known for its strong community values and close partnership with parents, which allows pupils of all faith traditions to flourish.

The current Head, David Buxton, is stepping down after 14 years of loyal service. The Governors seek an inspirational Head with a strong record of school management to lead the College through this pivotal time in its history. The successful candidate will be a practising Catholic, an excellent teacher and role model who will quickly command the respect of pupils, staff and the wider community, a skilled communicator with business acumen, and a wise counsellor, coach and mentor.
