Job overview

Walhampton School, Hampshire

From January 2021

IAPS, Day and boarding, 370 girls and boys aged 2-13

Walhampton is one of the most delightful and successful prep schools in the country. Situated in 100 acres of stunning grounds which play an important part in every pupil’s education and bordered by the Solent on one side and the New Forest on the other, Walhampton has developed strongly in recent years, and is now ready to be taken on to the next stage of its development as a leading prep school.

The two words which are constantly used to describe Walhampton are ‘magic’ and ‘joy’. Always ambitious to develop academic, creative, and sporting talent, the school seeks above all to encourage in every child a strength of character so that they leave Walhampton as confident, capable, compassionate and independent-minded young people.  It’s a school where learning, playing and living is genuinely fun.

The Governors are looking for a dynamic, imaginative, energetic and forward-looking Head who will build upon the progress made at the School under the leadership of Mr Titus Mills over the last 8 years, who has been appointed to the Headship of Port Regis School from January 2021.

The successful candidate will be prepared to roll up his/her sleeves, to be firm in direction but sensitive to the Walhampton journey to date, to be a leader with business acumen and stamina.  He or she will be a strategic thinker with the ability to inspire and enthuse, as well as having a genuine rapport with children, with a demonstrable sense of humour and an ability to make tough decisions when necessary.
