Job overview

The Governors of Haberdashers' Monmouth Schools are looking to appoint an outstanding educationalist as Head of Monmouth School for Girls, a thriving day and boarding school for around 500 girls aged 11 to 18. As one of the family of five Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools located in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the border of England and South Wales, the school benefits from the financial stability provided by the William Jones’s Schools Foundation endowment. The schools are known for their strength of community, their commitment to academic excellence and their focus on supporting the wider interests and needs of each individual pupil.

This is an exciting time to join the girls’ school. There is a focus on greater collaboration between the five schools and, for 2018/19, the two senior schools will launch fully co-educational teaching in the Sixth Form, with pastoral care remaining the responsibility of the individual schools. The new Head will play a key role in ensuring the success of this transition, as well as maximising the benefit of a new Performing Arts Centre opening in September.

The Governors are looking to attract applications from senior leaders with a passion for inspirational teaching and a commitment to delivering the best all-round educational outcomes for pupils. The new Head must appreciate the benefits of working collaboratively within the family, whilst upholding the school’s individual ethos and character.

Monmouth School For Girls is an independent day and boarding school based in Monmouthshire for girls aged 11-18.

The school was founded in 1892 and is part of the family of Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools, which owe their existence to William Jones, a liveryman of the Haberdashers’ Company, who bequeathed funds to establish a school in 1614.
