Job overview

We are looking to appoint an experienced teacher to join our department as Head of Academic Music, working with colleagues who are committed to delivering outstanding lessons across all key stages. This is a rare opportunity to teach at a school with a music specialism, leading on GCSE and A level tuition and playing a key role in shaping the curriculum. This position can be offered as a part time or full time.

The Head of Academic Music is a full-time member of the music department and will be expected to play a full part in the life of the College as a whole. They will be influential in developing the curriculum offer at the College and leading on the GCSE and A level teaching, under the overall direction of the Director of Music. While the role is predominantly based in the High School, there may be the opportunity for some primary music teaching for the right candidate.

The Head of Academic Music will join a thriving department of two further music teachers, a Specialism Support Assistant, a Composer in Residence and fourteen visiting instrumental and vocal teachers.

St Richard Reynolds has a busy and thriving music department. Year 7 and 8 students receive three fifty-minute lessons per fortnight, Year 9 students two per fortnight. The college has a healthy GCSE and A level uptake. The High School boasts a large and inclusive co-curricular offer, which includes numerous ensembles, bands, and choirs. The music department events calendar is extensive, including massed choral concerts, productions, tours, masses, gig-style events and instrumental recitals. The Head of Academic Music would be expected to have full involvement in the co-curricular offer. While we ask you to support our Catholic ethos, being a practising Catholic is not a requirement, and we welcome applicants from any background.

Salary, including a TLR2, is negotiable dependent upon calibre and experience.

The successful candidate will be a specialist teacher of Music, with established teaching experience in the UK and a track record of examination success at both GCSE and A level.
