Job overview

Sutton High School is seeking an efficient, engaging, motivated and passionate leader to develop and drive forward provision for academic PE (at GCSE and A Level) across the 11-18 age range in our busy and thriving school.

The successful candidate will have experience of teaching and/or leading academic PE, which is offered up to A Level, with an excellent record of pupil results, and will feel ready to lead others in an exceptional department in a school where pupils are motivated, well-behaved and keen to learn. Co-curricular sport at Sutton High School is both inclusive and wide-ranging, with over 30 clubs per week (though there is no Saturday sport here).

The department is the largest in the school, and also incorporates Dance. An Elite Sportswoman/Scholars programme develops our top performers, and results for cricket, tennis, hockey and swimming are excellent. Sport is well-resourced and has superb uptake across the age range. GCSE PE (AQA) and A Level PE are both highly popular.

You will have the organisational skills and drive to shape the vision for academic PE, ensuring it remains as one of our most successful and popular subjects. You will have care for our pupils, and love for the subject, so that you can inspire and enthuse our girls and develop an academic PE curriculum that is exciting and innovative.

This role would suit an experienced teacher or current Head of Department. As a Head of Academic PE and Second in Sport, you will have a generous time allowance for leadership and to account for co-curricular activities, teaching 26 out of 40 periods per week, with a flexible afternoon or morning where working from home is enabled.
