Wetherby Senior School was founded in 2015 and is a member of the Alpha Plus Group of Schools. There are 452 boys on roll, all of whom study at least 1 language for 5 years and we regularly add at least 0.5 of a grade at both IGCSE and A Level. Our students achieve grades that allow them to gain places at top UK Universities such as Cambridge, LSE, Imperial, Durham and UCL, and Universities aboard such as the University of Chicago, Pompeu Fabra Barcelona and the IE Business School Madrid. 

 

The School was founded to offer a progressive education in the heart of London. The School’s focus on providing an all-round education means that high standards are expected of the boys in all areas of school life. The School provides the boys with a broad educational experience, which includes Philosophy and Thinking Skills in the curriculum, to ensure that they are able to think critically and to problem solve but also that they can be creative and collaborative in their approach, so that they develop a sense of social responsibility and respect for others. Our skilled staff, who have a wealth of experience, are preparing to send our pupils to leading universities in the UK, the US and elsewhere.

 

At Wetherby Senior School we seek to employ highly professional teachers with the ability and commitment to enhance the life of the School and to work effectively and collaboratively with all members of the School community to further establish and develop the School. Our emphasis on educating the whole boy means that all members of staff are expected to contribute to the pastoral care of a group of students as a Form Tutor as well as contributing to the School’s co-curricular activities.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and delivering PE at GCSE (AQA)and at A Level (OCR). They also will be enthusiastic about contributing fully to the department and be able to teach practical PE and coach boys’ games. A specialism in football is preferable, however it is not essential. A willingness to play a part in the wider life of the school and to be a pastoral tutor would be an advantage.

 

Our sports programme gives boys the opportunity to compete at a high level in a range of sports but also understands the importance of sport in the development of all young men. We are looking for a team player with a love of sport who are able to engage and motivate the pupils and are committed to developing a love of sport and an understanding of the importance of physical fitness in all the boys at the school.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

 1.   Responsibility for managing the Academic PE curriculum including;

•   Developing and reviewing schemes of work and monitoring their use by staff.

•   Applying effective methods of assessment of student’s work and analysing the results.

•   Fostering, by example, a spirit of academic enquiry within the department. 

•   Keeping up-to-date with subject developments outside the School and bringing them to the attention of colleagues.

•   To organise and lead trips within London and further afield to develop pupils’ understanding and enrich their learning


2.   Responsibility for managing the staff in the department, including: 

•   Providing an effective induction programme for new members of the department who are teaching academic PE.

•   Arranging for the observation of teaching as a matter of good practice and providing constructive feedback to the teacher concerned. 

•   Ensuring that teachers in the department use the School’s rewards and sanctions effectively. 


3.   Responsibility for managing the pupils being taught in the department, including: 

•   Fostering high standards of academic work. 

•   Ensuring effective use of pupil tracking data.   

 

4.   A contribution to the development of the PE Department, including:

•   Teach practical PE across all Key Stages, and Games from 11-18.

•   Have a specialism in either Football, Rugby or Cricket. A specialism in Football is preferable, but not essential..

•   Attending department meetings and undertaking administrative tasks that are designated by the Director of Sport, thereby contributing to a sense of teamwork and aiding professional development.

•   Helping as appropriate with advising pupils with options choices relevant to the subject and with university applications.

•   Help to organise fixtures, trips and tours.


THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

 

  1. The ability to teach PE to A Level.
  2. Have outstanding subject knowledge, academic qualifications and to be able to communicate their enthusiasm.
  3. Be able to deliver dynamic and effective lessons to the full ability range of pupils at the School.
  4. Highly effective communication skills for interacting with all members of the School community.
  5. A genuine commitment to pastoral care and the welfare and safeguarding of pupils.
  6. Interests and abilities that can enhance the School’s co-curricular programme.
  7. Excellent inter-personal skills.
  8. Excellent administrative, organisational, and IT skills.

About Wetherby Senior School

Wetherby Senior School is a thriving independent day school for boys aged 11-18 situated in the heart of London. Since opening in 2015 the School has grown and in September 2018 we welcomed our first cohort of Sixth Form pupils following very successful GCSE results. The School combines a rigorous academic education with an emphasis on developing the whole boy by giving him a broad educational experience and strong pastoral care.

We are an academically selective school and the main points of entry are 11+, 13+ and 16+. The School is divided into the Lower School (Years 6 to 9), Middle School (Years 10 to 11) and the Sixth Form with Heads of Section taking responsibility for each age group.

Our vision at Wetherby Senior is to provide an outstanding, progressive all-round education, supporting our pupils to achieve academically and to develop as people, fully preparing them to meet the challenges of being a young man in the twenty-first century.

Academic excellence is central to Wetherby Senior, complemented by our aim to nurture a genuine enjoyment of learning and intellectual curiosity. Our curriculum is underpinned by a learning philosophy centred on the belief that a person’s talents, ability and performance can be improved. There are currently 410 boys and individual attention is fostered through small class sizes and dedicated teaching staff.

Location

The School occupies two campuses – One on Marylebone Lane and the second on Manchester Street. Our location in the heart of London enables us to access everything the city has to offer in terms of the arts, culture, business, science and technology. We also enjoy the use of excellent sports grounds at Ealing Trailfinders.
