To help secure that future they are seeking to appoint a Head of Academic Studies to lead the Sixth Form and Creative Study Faculties.

The Head of Academic Studies will lead the academic and operational affairs of the Faculty in a fashion that promotes exceptional performance from staff and learners in line with the College’s corporate and strategic aims. They will be responsible for the curriculum and planning agenda, whilst working with Department Heads to continually push the boundaries of best practice across teaching, learning and the quality of provision, set against a model of prudent financial control and performance accountability.  

The successful candidate will have an exceptional grasp of the challenges facing the sector, ideally from within the context of Sixth Form provision or a similar academic function. They will be a proven leader with the drive and passion to build upon the strong foundations of this large and progressive College that is inclusive and growth-orientated. The personality of this individual will be key to the success of the role, as he/she is unlikely to have all the answers, but must have an unswerving passion and intellectual capacity to make a difference, take difficult decisions and drive an agenda of inclusion and opportunity for all.

Newcastle-Under-Lyme College is a mixed, non-denominational further education college in Staffordshire, serving students from the age of 16 and above. The further education college, situated in Newcastle under Lyme has approximately 3,800 full time learners on site every year, along with 2,600 part time or adult learners.

Newcastle-Under-Lyme College opened in 1986 and in 2010,  moved to a £60 million campus. In 2015, a £5.5 million performing arts centre opened, while an outdoor learning centre built the following year. The college works closely with LEGO Education to help support learners and teachers and has invested £60,000 in a LEGO Education Innovation Studio. Other facilities include The Gordon Banks Sports Centre, which features a 24 station gym, a media theatre, fashion studio and a hair and beauty training salon. In 2013 it was identified as good by Ofsted.
