The Exciting Role 

We are looking for a Head of Apprenticeships who can drive excellence in delivering a high-quality learning experience for all our apprentices, and lead our talented learner focused team in designing and delivering a highly responsive curriculum which meets employer needs. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader of curriculum who understands the quality of learning and assessment and how to apply this expertise to the world of Apprenticeships. 


The successful candidate will be able to:

• Lead this high performing and growing division to continue to develop and enhance the College’s varied Apprenticeship portfolio

• Understand and apply external quality measures for example the EIF to ensure continued and improving performance

• Work collaboratively with other Heads of Division and Support teams to ensure that our Apprentices benefit from the full range of support, guidance, skills and personal development opportunities which enable them to be successful in their career aspirations

• Work closely with cross college teams to ensure compliance with ESFA Apprenticeship funding requirements


What You Will Be Doing

• Be responsible for the quality of the apprenticeship offer; accurately self-assessing the provision and creating quality improvement plans

• Lead the Apprenticeship curriculum teams in delivering high quality teaching, training learning and assessment 

• Work collaboratively across college to develop highly responsive employer focused new curricula and to drive innovation and change.

• Contribute to the professional development of the curriculum teams delivering Apprenticeships

• Maintain effective budgetary controls staffing and other resources in line with college financial regulations and procedures

• Identify, communicate and celebrate best practice with your teams

• Be responsible for achieving the Key Performance Indicators in relation to Apprenticeship provision

• Play an integral role in the College Leadership Team


What We Are Looking For:

• A degree in the relevant subject area

• Recognised teaching/ assessing qualification

• A higher degree or management qualification

• Successful teaching/ assessing in the relevant subject area

• Evidence of successful staff management and the ability to inspire and motivate others

About Nelson and Colne College

Nelson and Colne College, located in the town of Nelson, Lancashire, offers further education to 1,600 full-time students and 3,500 part-time adults. The college was founded during the reorganisation of education in Pendle in the early 1970s and created by the merger of several local sixth forms. 

Recent investments have included a £2m engineering facility, an all-weather sports pitch and gym, fully equipped science laboratories, and student study and social spaces. In January 2017, Nelson and Colne College launched a university centre to offer a range of higher education programmes in East Lancashire and beyond.
