Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint an outstanding teacher of Art and Design to lead our successful Art department through its next phase of development. The successful candidate will clearly be able to demonstrate their effectiveness in the classroom and their wider influence on standards and opportunities in their present setting. Becoming Head of Art in a rapidly improving school such as ours is a big step, but you’ll be joining a dedicated team and will receive expert support from your SLT line manager, herself a former Head of Art.

You will be passionate about the importance of Art and Design in our world and about unlocking the creative energy of our students. You will also be ambitious to develop and extend the curriculum and facilities for Art and Design in our school.

Langdon Academy is a 3-16 school, sponsored by Brampton Manor Trust. We work in close partnership with Brampton Manor Academy (an outstanding 11-18 Academy), which is the other school within our multi-academy trust (MAT). There is great spirit, energy and optimism in the school since joining the MAT in 2014 which has led to substantial improvements and successes in every aspect of school life, placing the school slightly above the national average for Progress 8 and substantially above for the English Baccalaureate. However, this is by no means sufficient, given the potential of our students.

This is an excellent time to join Langdon Academy and Brampton Manor Trust, providing opportunities for further development, including future scope to gain experience in Langdon’s Primary Phase or in Brampton Manor’s highly successful Sixth Form. So, if you’ve already strongly established your teaching and leadership credentials in a secondary Art department, it’s time we talked.

Please visit our websites at www.bramptonmanor.org or www.langdon.newham.sch.uk to apply and obtain further details about this role. All completed application forms must be sent by email to jobs@bramptonmanor.org.

Brampton Manor Trust is an equal opportunities employer. We are fully committed to the safeguarding of children.  Enhanced DBS, Barred List and Prohibition checks will always be carried out on new employees.

About Langdon Academy

Langdon Academy is a mixed, non-denominational all-through academy school for three to 16-year-olds located in East Ham in the east London borough of Newham. It has capacity for just over 2,400 pupils.

The school is part of the Brampton Manor Trust, a multi-academy trust which also runs Brampton Manor Academy. Langdon Academy (previously Langdon School) joined the trust in 2014.

The school was originally three separate institutions, built in 1953. In 1972, these schools - Burges Manor, Thomas Lethaby and East Ham Grammar School - were combined to form Langdon School, a mixed comprehensive that would later become Langdon Academy.

Values and vision

Langdon Academy’s motto is “progresso cum populo”, meaning “progress with the people”. It’s aim is to ensure the maximum possible progress for each pupil across all aspects of their development.

The school lists its core values as: respect, equality, honesty and community. These values, it says, defines Langdon Academy’s culture, and ensures that every student feels valued, cared for, and able to contribute to both their school and their society.

Because it is an all-through school, Langdon Academy believes it can offer pupils maximum continuity and progression during their educational development.
