Job overview

About Morley College London

Established in 1889, and with our roots stretching back even further, Morley College London is one of the country's oldest and largest specialist providers of adult education. We provide long-term, sustainable and affordable programmes of lifelong learning across three centres – North Kensington, Chelsea and Waterloo – including 16-19 provision at North Kensington and Chelsea.

As one of only nine Specialist Designated Institutions (SDIs) in the UK, we serve more than 17,000 students through a coherent, student-centred course offer, underpinned by our mission to empower individuals and strengthen communities through education in Arts, Culture and Applied Sciences. Whether studying for personal development and well-being, to gain essential skills (English, Maths, IT), to access higher education, or for career development or change, our vision is for ambitions to be inspired and achieved through learning.

Following Morley College’s merger with Kensington and Chelsea College in February 2020, the College is reshaping its curriculum and professional service teams to facilitate an ambitious plan for development and growth. As the UK looks to a post-COVID recovery, Morley College London is more determined than ever before to support Londoners to learn, and so we’re looking for applications from talented individuals with energy and enthusiasm.

We have an exceptional opportunity for a new Head of Art to join us at our Chelsea Centre, and without a doubt it’s a fantastic time to join the Creative Industries team, at this specialist centre which is part of Morley College London.

This role will lead the developing the Creative Discovery Programme Area in which our successful diagnostic provision is offered from L1 to L4 as well as our Fine Art Programme Area within which is our well-established Fine Art HE programme and a range of print short courses.  The Head of Media, with two programme managers, will lead an academic team supported by technical and administrative centre teams in pursuing growth.

The College was established in 1889, and with our roots stretching back even further, Morley College London is one of the country's oldest and largest specialist providers of adult education. At Morley College London, we provide lifelong learning across three centres – North Kensington, Chelsea and Waterloo – including 16-19 provision at North Kensington and Chelsea.

The Chelsea Centre has built on its heritage of creative practice with an ambition to be a leading institution for skills education in the Creative Arts and Industries as well as addressing the essential skills needs of the local community.

We are looking for a leader thrilled by the opportunity to develop an innovative curriculum in collaboration with other like-minded individuals. Morley is a creative community that has an ambitious vision for new learning opportunities and the transformative potential for creative learning and has committed significant investment  to support this vision.

You will present a compelling vision for the future of the centre and lead a team to achieve exceptional and diverse learning experiences for the future careers in these industries.  You will be excited by the opportunity to develop interdisciplinary learning in partnership with other curriculum Heads and collaborating closely with a leadership team leading on key cross centre priorities.

Morley College London aims to have a workforce that is as reflective of the diverse population that it serves. The College particularly encourages applications from women, ethnic minorities and disabled people who are currently under-represented within the College at this level.  We support applications from applicants with experience of course leadership who are seeking to take that next career step into a senior role.

Morley’s Waterloo Centre for Adult Education is one of the UK’s oldest and largest specialist providers of adult education, founded in 1889 by activist, feminist and educationalist Emma Cons.

Our Waterloo Centre is here for the curious – for those who want to learn while joining others in their pursuit of knowledge. It’s a cultural hub for adults.

A place to learn and discuss what you’ve learnt since 1889. Because it’s not just about what you learn – whether it’s a new language, sound engineering, jewellery making, childcare, medicine or maths – it’s about the people you meet along your journey.

Ever since our inception, we’ve believed that education and socialisation go hand in hand. So our Waterloo Centre for Adult Education offers the courses you need to continue your education. It’s a place to continue learning – from us and each other.

Our expert tutors are well-known professionals in their fields, with bags of knowledge and passion. So you could experience learning with artists, musicologists, scientists and more.
