This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative leader with strong curriculum understanding to join us as Head of Art and continue to grow Art provision at Helena Romanes School from EYFS to 6th Form as part of the all-through school.

You will have a varied, dynamic and strategic role as Head of Art. You will provide strong leadership to your team, with a clear focus on continuing to drive improvements in teaching, curriculum design and students’ progress across the department. There will also be the opportunity to develop the extra curricular provision including the possibility of working with other departments across the school.

Helena Romanes is a thriving, all-through school for children aged 4-18, situated in the beautiful North Essex countryside. It has good communications to London and the South East, and it is approximately 7 miles from Stansted Airport.

This is an exciting time to join the school

  • In September 2021, the school opened a Primary phase, with children in Reception and Key Stage 1. Together with the expansion of the Sixth Form, the school will grow to become an all-through school of 2000 pupils from ages 4 to 18.
  • It is planned that the school will relocate to a world-class, purpose built site, close to our current location in Dunmow, in September 2025.
  • Helena Romanes has made excellent progress with the support of Saffron Academy Trust towards being judged by Ofsted as a Good school. Working with the talented senior leadership team that is in place across all phases of the school, and drawing on the commitment from staff to provide the best possible outcomes for the pupils.

We are a mixed 4 – 18 Academy with over 1200 pupils on roll. The school is situated in beautiful countryside, occupying approximately 35 acres just to the north of Great Dunmow.

The school was established in 1958 and is named in honour of the first Chair of Governors.

At Helena Romanes, we are ambitious for our pupils and we offer them a rich and varied curriculum. Our pupils develop the skills, knowledge and understanding that enables them to move successfully into higher education, apprenticeships, training or employment.
