Contract type: Full Time
Salary: Inner London United Learning Teachers’ pay scale
Contract term: Permanent

At Lambeth Academy, we live by our school motto to ‘be exceptional’. To achieve this, we need the best staff to bring out the best in every single student. For many of our children, this means equipping them with the knowledge, ambition and skill to attend university and go on to have a meaningful career.

We have a relentless focus on high standards, whether this is on the learning in classrooms, our students’ interactions around the Academy, or in raising their aspirations. We don’t overcomplicate things: teachers teach, and students learn. Anything that takes away from this core focus has to come second. We believe exceptional learning is about determining the simple things that work, doing them well, and doing them all the time. If you’d like to join us on this mission, please come and visit us – we’d be delighted to welcome you.

The role

The Head of Art will lead a small but very important department to ensure that student outcomes in the subject are excellent. Art at Lambeth Academy has flourished over the last few years, with some creative, imaginative and highly skilled pieces being produced in lessons and clubs from Year 7 to Year 13. Our annual Art Exhibition showcases the incredible work of our students, and has resulted in their work being used in public, most notably as part of a campaign to raise awareness of race inequality in bus shelters and advertising spaces across South London.

The principal responsibilities include ensuring a highly effective department where teaching and learning is excellent across all lessons and where all students make great progress, regardless of their starting points. You will be responsible to, and highly supported by, one of our Assistant Principals.

As Head of Art, you will be responsible for the teaching and learning, outcomes and continuous development of the department. You can also expect to play a strategic leadership role in the academy’s future. The leadership team at Lambeth Academy strongly believes in giving autonomy to outstanding middle leaders and is always open to creative and innovative ideas.

About You

The Person: We are looking for an exceptional leader to join our team. If you are an outstanding Art teacher looking for an opportunity to make your mark in the ongoing transformation of an inner city secondary school this is the perfect opportunity for you. This position provides the ideal opportunity for an ambitious and dynamic middle leader with vision to help shape an ethos of care, respect, high achievement and challenge.

You will need to have QTS and a good honours degree in the relevant subject area. The successful candidate will also need to be able to work independently as well as part of a team. You will need to be able to work under pressure, have excellent communications skills, and be computer literate.

You will have experience in delivering high quality teaching and learning, be a consistently good to outstanding teacher and have high personal and professional standards.

This is an exciting time to join Lambeth Academy; if you share our high expectations and are passionate about making a difference then we look forward to receiving your application.

About Lambeth Academy: We are a diverse and vibrant community and are situated close to Clapham Common.  Our vision is to achieve exemplary teaching which develops individual talents and abilities, and which realises the potential in everyone.

About the Cluster: The two United Learning South London Academies – Lambeth and Hurlingham formalised a cluster arrangement in September 2018 with the vision to provide a high quality and comprehensive partnership in order to support and nourish our local young people. This arrangement has allowed us to share knowledge and expertise across both academies.

We are seeking to appoint committed and hardworking staff who are passionate about making a difference to the lives of our children and young people.

Additional information: It is important that all applicants complete the full application process.

United Learning

Lambeth Academy is part of United Learning, a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.

Our schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better: with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning), and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.
