Job overview

Are you ready to lead within a highly successful Science faculty in an ‘Outstanding’ school?

Glyn School is seeking an innovative and dynamic Head of Biology to join us from September 2018.

Science is an integral part of the curriculum at Glyn and is taught across KS3, KS4 and KS5. Each class at KS3 is taught Biology, Chemistry and Physics and periodic set changes occur based on regular assessment. Triple and Combined Science is offered at KS4. Science is a popular subject choice at KS5, with an average of three A Level classes for all branches of Science – Biology, Physics, and Chemistry.

Our highly engaged and hardworking students achieve excellent examination results, as demonstrated by results of 99% A*-A in GCSE Triple Science. In 2017, as a school, we had record A Level results; Physics, Chemistry and Biology A*-A outcomes were in line with overall school results.

We are interested in hearing from you, no matter what point in your career you are currently at, and welcome flexible working arrangements. You will have the drive and ambition to lead your team from ‘outstanding’ to ‘exceptional’ and will have a proven track record in achieving high student outcomes.

Glyn is ideally situated just ten minutes’ walk from both Ewell East and Ewell West stations, both of which are approximately 20 minutes from Clapham Junction and within Zone 6.

Why should you teach at Glyn?

Glyn is an ‘Outstanding’ school; to be exceptional is for our students to leave not only with the grades necessary to pursue their goals, but also with the life-skills they need to thrive and contribute to the global community. Learning and Teaching is at the heart of the school. Our teachers have a passion for their subjects and build strong relationships with students to cultivate their ‘love of learning’. We offer our teachers unprecedented support to hone their craft. Staff well-being is a priority at Glyn and our middle and senior leaders ensure that our teachers have the opportunities to learn and grow in their chosen career development path.

What other team members say about their careers at Glyn:

"I moved to Glyn after five years at a grammar school. It was definitely the right move for me. I absolutely love the atmosphere at Glyn. The students are a joy to teach and my team are incredibly supportive of each other. It's fantastic to work at a highly respected school where learning and teaching always takes priority”.

“I joined Glyn School as the Head of History and Politics in September 2015. My reasons for joining Glyn were to be part of an outstanding school, which was also a Teaching School”.

“Glyn have been incredibly supportive and invested heavily in my training to ensure I am the best possible leader in education I can be. It never fails to amaze me how motivated all staff are to improve, and how committed leaders are to ensure all staff meet their potential”.

The successful candidate will need to:

  • Be an outstanding classroom practitioner.
  • Have excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Have a proven track record in achieving excellent student progress.
  • Be enthusiastic and committed to working as part of a team.
  • Be passionate about the students’ learning and welfare.
  • Be keen to be part of the wider school community, participating in extra-curricular clubs.
