Forestville Montessori School is an independent, mainstream, co-educational school in Forestville, New South Wales.
Established in 1981, Forestville Montessori caters for children aged between three months and 12 years. Montessori education is based on the discoveries and insights of Dr. Maria Montessori.
Headteacher
Frances G. Reed
Facilities
The materials used to teach reading, writing, mathematics, geometry, geography, science, biology, music, and social studies are all unique to the Montessori classroom. The Montessori Approach uses a ‘hands-on’ learning approach. Children work with specially designed materials before learning abstract, pencil and paper, methods. Children use a wide variety of books and many other resources but do not rely upon one textbook for information. Older and younger students share a classroom.
A before and after school care program for pre-school and primary children is available from 7:30am to 6:00pm
Curriculum
Forestville is licensed by the Department of Education and Communities (DEC) and registered/accredited by The Board of Studies, meeting all guidelines and standards.
Montessori teachers are referred to as “Directors” as they see their educational role, as leading a child through a journey of self-discovery and facilitating the child’s own learning rather than merely delivering a compartmentalised didactic curriculum.
Co-curricular activities include calligraphy, drama, community service, music, cooking and computer education.
School ethos
The Montessori Mission is to provide a special environment where children are able to continue the natural process of their growth and development. Dr. Maria Montessori observed natural child development and designed and implemented an educational method devoted to the individual needs of the child with the aim of fostering cooperation, responsibility and independence.
