We are seeking an exceptional and compassionate individual to serve as our Head of Boarding, responsible for overseeing and enhancing the residential life experience of our students.

As the Head of Boarding, you will play a pivotal role in creating a safe, supportive and nurturing environment for our boarding students, who can join us from year 3. This is a live-in role.

About the Role and You

Contract type: Full-time, permanent

Salary: Dependent on experience

Start date: September 2024  

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • To act ‘in loco parents’ to all pupils in our Boarding Houses and ensure that the health and safety, happiness and well-being of every pupil is given the upmost attention and importance.
  • Keep close contact with parents and guardians to ensure that they are kept fully informed.
  • Creating a caring and welcoming environment within the Boarding Houses.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status.
  • Has a valid UK driving license.
  • Has experience teaching and working within a boarding environment.
  • Is First Aid trained (desirable).
  • Is approachable and friendly.
  • Can remain calm under pressure.
  • Is flexible and adaptable.

Wellesley Haddon Dene School is a leading independent, co-educational prep school for boys and girls aged from 2 to 13 years, situated in the seaside town of Broadstairs. 

The school has a long and rich history. Its many well-known former pupils have found eminence in many fields and include photographer Patrick Litchfield, industrialist Sir Jocelyn Stephens, General Sir Peter de Billiere, Oxford Professor of History Sir Hew Strachan and the Duke of Gloucester.  More recent alumni include Sam Northeast, the current captain of Kent cricket, showjumper William Fox-Pitt and Nick Bateman from ‘Big Brother’!

Pupils who leave Wellesley move on at 13+ to a wide range of UK schools with many going on to schools such as Eton, Harrow, Tonbridge, Benenden and King’s Canterbury.  In the last five years, 47 academic, all-rounder, music, sports, art and DT awards have been made by senior schools to our pupils. Major academic awards in the last 5 years include awards to Harrow, King’s Canterbury and Eton. For many years, our pupils have had 100% success at Common Entrance.
