Job overview

Head of Boarding

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with previous boarding experience at management level, to lead a team of ten staff and to oversee a thriving boarding house which accommodates pupils from two London schools within the same management company.  You should be familiar with the nature of an independent school boarding environment.

The boarding house, Princess Beatrice House (PBH), offers some of the best school accommodation in the UK: it is a luxurious accommodation block located in Earls Court, a short tube ride from the two schools which are in Kensington and Chelsea. There are currently close to one hundred pupils between the ages of 13 - 18 residing at PBH in single or twin rooms, all of which are en-suite.

You will be overseeing the morning, evening and weekend routines of friendly, hardworking students.  Our students hail from many countries including several from China and the Middle East.  You will be sensitive to the fact that many of the pupils are experiencing a new culture for the first time.  The successful candidate will maintain the strict regime of the House, including prep and bedtimes, whilst also making time for pastoral care and pupil ‘down time’. A large part of the job is to manage the schedule of evening and weekend activities and to draw up appropriate risk assessments.  You will also keep in regular contact with the pastoral team at both schools to ensure a seamless continuation of the welfare and care of pupils as they share their experiences between school and boarding.

The Head of Boarding will be accommodated in a studio apartment within the boarding house which is suitable for a single person or for a couple. Fee concessions are available to children of staff, subject to entry procedures at the respective schools.

Astrum Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful applicant will be subject to a number of safer recruitment checks including an enhanced disclosure through the Disclosure and Barring Service.

To apply, please complete the application form in full and return it to recruitment@astrumeducation.com

Application deadline: 12.00 pm, Thursday 18 April 2019.

At this stage we are focusing on direct applications rather than agency contacts.

Welcome to Kensington Park School.

Split across two sites on either side of Kensington Gardens, Kensington Park School offers boys and girls aged 11 to 18 an exceptionally well-rounded education in the heart of central London.

An academically purposeful school, our central purpose is, above all, to enable potential, and each student is excited, challenged, and inspired to become the best possible version of themselves. Small class sizes, coupled with a broad and balanced curriculum and outstanding pastoral care, not only prepares students for exceptional GCSE and A Level results, but enables them to develop skills they need to succeed in a fast-paced and ever-changing world.

We believe that young people flourish when they feel happy, confident, and challenged. This core belief underpins all that we do in our school, which has a friendly, family atmosphere and focuses on the individual.

At the heart of our success is the strength of partnership that exists between our staff, students, and their families. We believe that every young person should feel a sense of belonging in our school community and enjoy their learning. As a consequence, our students will leave with the skills and resources they need to take the next step in their lives, confident in their strengths and prepared to meet the challenges of the future.

The underlying philosophy of our school aims to prepare our students for their futures in a rapidly changing world by encouraging critical thinking, adaptability, and taking increasing responsibility for one’s own learning and actions whilst striving for personal academic excellence. The ethos of the school is built on mutual respect between staff and students alongside a strong culture of inclusiveness and openness, which also provides freedom for individual ambition and expression.

Our school values are summarised by the KPS REACH Code, which emphasizes Responsibility, Empathy, Ambition, Courage, and Humility.

We are unapologetically ambitious for every young person in our care, and for the school as a whole. This determination to provide a brilliant mix of motivated students and dedicated staff is part of what makes KPS such a vibrant and positive place to study and work.
