Malvern College Qingdao is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced  Head of House  for August 2022 or sooner if available.

The successful candidate will contribute to the development and delivery of the College’s vision and values. They will be a supportive member of the faculty team and wider school staff and help ensure the success of Malvern College Qingdao as a leading independent, international school in China.

Job Description:

General

 To lead a whole school boarding team with 14 boarding houses and a boarding team of over 30 expats and house staff, we have 1000 boarding students on site.

 To ensure the policies and procedures are carried out effectively and to initiate any necessary changes according to circumstance.

 Maintain a standard of consistency across all boarding houses in terms of policy , practice and procedure.

 To be responsible for the expenditure of boarding hours funds

 To continually improve and suggest new initiatives for improvement

 To be the senior member of staff on duty when required

 To perform any other key tasks which the SLT deem appropriate and necessary

Communication

 To ensure that boarding staff, parents and pupils understand the aims and objectives of boarding at MCQ. And the principles on which community life in the houses are based.

 To cultivate contact and communicate with parents regularly, to ensure that they are fully informed about boarding matters such as activities, important dates and changes to routines and to oversee any communication within the boarding house to patents

 To ensure regular , affective and timely communication tales places on all matters relating to student activity and welfare , between the boarding provision and the HOY/ teaching staff.

 To be an ambassador for boarding within the school structure

 To work with the marketing department as required to promote boarding externally

Activities

 To ensure that a full and varied programme of age-appropriate extra-curricular activities is available, and pupils are appropriately occupied, especially at weekends.

 To ensure that the House Cup competition becomes a prominent and defining feature of the boarding provision , across houses

 To ensure that a varied and exciting series of House Cup competitions take place throughout the year 

 To liaise closely with all relevant members across the school to ensure that House Cup events are well

 From time to time, to plan and lead off-campus excursions and activates

Staff

 To promote a positive can-do culture across all aspects of the boarding 

 To carry out regular training of all boarding staff, including induction training for new staff

 To develop and manage the boarding staff and other support staff in the boarding house

 To lead regular minuted meetings with relevant boarding staff to ensure effective communication and to give staff a voice to air concerns and suggestions for improvement

 To manage the levels of staff supervision to ensure the safety and security (including emotional ) of all pupils at all times when they are in the school’s charge  ( including meals times, weekends , and on expeditions and outings)

Student welfare

 To develop in the students a collective responsibility to be aware of the difficulties or problems of others, and to allow students to have a democratic voice through the student council

 To put in place measures to promote the academic , social, emotional and physical well-being and development of the boarders

 To keep suitable records of pupils’ progress, welfare, health, emotional problems, discipline, medical needs, achievements and misconduct

 To liaise closely with the designated safeguarding lead to ensure that the requirements of the school’s policy on child protection is implemented

 To ensure that all members of the boarding staff team are familiar with the school's policies and procedures for child protection, countering bullying , health and safety

 To ensure that the children are looked after as individuals according to their needs and in accordance with school policy

 To promote and maintain good discipline across the boarding provision

 To ensure that children’s medical welfare is catered for by liaising with the nurse

Health and safety

 In conjunction with the Estates team, to ensure that all aspects of the provision are safe for students use and a fit for purpose

 To preform fire walk-throughs and fire drill for all house on a regular basis

 To ensure that security systems and protocols are operational at all times.
