Head of Boarding (Senior School)

Ashford SchoolKent

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, passionate, and inspirational Head of Boarding to lead the boarding provision at Ashford School.

You will be expected to lead our vibrant boarding community of staff and pupils and to work closely with the Senior Deputy Head (Pastoral) to ensure the School maintains the highest standards in terms of its boarding provision.

You will have a good appreciation of world cultures and will be passionate about ensuring young people are safe and well cared for so that they can fulfil their potential academically and personally.

Boarders from age 11 to 18 make up around 20% of the student population of the Senior School and represent over 24 different nationalities. The boarders are fully integrated into the life of the school and, during the school day, all boarders join one of six houses with day pupils. We operate a 5-day teaching week and so the boarding staff provide care and activities in the evenings and at weekends. Teachers contribute to a programme of activities for boarders.

There are currently two boarding houses each with 60 resident children who are looked after by at least three resident staff in each House and other boarding staff providing activities, tutoring and pastoral care. The School has both the facilities and capacity to increase the numbers of boarders, if it was deemed appropriate.

Each House is led by a Head of House (Houseparent), each of whom is a teacher with other school responsibilities, so support is needed in the day-to-day running of the House.

A part-time teaching commitment will also be expected.

Note - We reserve the right to interview and offer to a strong candidate prior to the closing date. It is strongly recommended that candidates submit their applications as soon as possible.
