HEAD of BURY GRAMMAR SCHOOL BOYS

The Principal and Governors of Bury Grammar Schools seek to appoint a talented, committed and inspirational Head for Bury Grammar School Boys, to build upon BGSB’s successes and take the School from strength to strength. The School enjoyed excellent examination results last summer and two ‘excellent’ outcomes from ISI inspection last winter. 

Founded in 1570, the Bury Grammar Schools combine the traditions of a selective grammar school with an innovative and forward-looking approach to the education of each individual child.  Located in Greater Manchester, BGS is comprised of the Coeducational Infant School, the Boys’ Junior and Senior Schools, the Girls’ Junior and Senior Schools and a Sixth Form in which teaching will become coeducational from September 2018.The Schools share a number of facilities and governing body and work together very closely on a day-to-day basis. 

BGS has a reputation as an exceptionally friendly and family-centred school with the highest academic standards together with the provision of outstanding extra-curricular activities.

This is a unique role suited to a gifted leader and team player. The new Head of BGSB will lead the Boys’ Junior and Boys’ Senior Schools and, as a member of the Directorate, will play a key role in influencing the educational quality of all the schools in the BGS family.  

The start date for this appointment is 1st January 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

About Bury Grammar School Boys

Bury Grammar School Boys is an independent, all-through, mainstream school with a sixth form, for boys aged three to 18. Based in Bury, Lancashire, the school was established during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. The exact date is unknown, but the school believes it was founded around 1570. 

Bury Grammar educates approximately 498 students and since 1994 has occupied the former Magistrates' Court, opposite Tenterden Street. It is associated with Bury Grammar School Girls.
