West Island School is a member of the English Schools Foundation and was established in 1991. As an international secondary school offering iGCSE and IB programmes, we occupy award winning buildings in the Western district of Hong Kong. We serve a stable and established community in the Pokfulam district, with over 1200 students on roll. Our school mission of strength from diversity reflects the considerable achievements of our learners from over 40 different nationalities. Our students progress to the universities of their choice because they achieve highly, are well equipped and are leaders of the future.
You will be leading a team of four Business teachers work creatively to deliver programmes that benefit from our context in Hong Kong as a major international trading hub. From age 11-14 the Business team contribute to integrated humanities and designing learning that draws on key business concepts. From ages 14-16, students can choose iGCSE Business Studies and we currently have 6 teaching groups across this phase. Students can then progress into IBDP Business or Btec Level 3 Business depending on their chosen pathway.
The popularity of the subject within the school is matched by the success of our students who consistently attain above expectations. Business Studies is the first choice for the majority in future career and university applications.
Working within the Individual & Societies Faculty you will be able to teach Business across the age and ability range including iGCSE, IB Standard and Higher Level. Btec experience would be a distinct advantage. Your passion and subject knowledge is more important than having direct experience of teaching IB. It would be helpful but not essential if you can teach Economics to at least iGCSE level.
