Job overview

We are looking to appoint an experienced Chemistry teacher who is passionate about developing the curriculum to inspire the next generation of scientists.

The Science Department at Ashmole Academy is committed to fostering a curiosity in our students for science in the world around us. Our science curriculum encourages students to think like scientists whilst developing their knowledge and skills as we seek to inspire the next generation of science specialists.

At Ashmole Academy, an equal number of students study either separate or combined science at GCSE. More than two thirds of our separate science students achieve at least a Grade 7, and approximately 15% achieve a Grade 9. At A-Level, we have approximately 50 students studying either Biology, Chemistry, Physics and/or Psychology.

The Scholars Programme at Ashmole Academy allows our A-Level students to conduct their own scientific research project and to support the teaching of Science in our Primary School.

Ashmole Academy is a high performing and heavily oversubscribed local comprehensive school in North London, situated near Southgate Underground Station.  The school prides itself on maintaining a high level of mutual respect between students and all staff, and continues to support other schools as a Behaviour Hub lead school. We celebrate diversity and have been awarded a Gold Equalities Award as a recognition of our commitment to equality.

Benefits of working for our school:

  • Access to high quality career development pathways, including a personalised induction plan, with opportunities to take on additional responsibilities within a large and well-resourced school.
  • Extensive professional development to ensure high quality teaching through INSET days, themed whole school meetings, support in completing national professional qualifications and departmental meetings with a focus on training.
  • A strong professional tutor team led by experienced staff to support all of our Early Career Teachers.  Early Career Teachers receive beyond their statutory induction requirements.
  • A focus on wellbeing led by a staff wellbeing committee, promoting activities such as golden week, subsidised yoga and staff social activities.
  • Flexible working opportunities at a family friendly school, which includes a Primary School on site.
  • On site Starbucks as well as over 150 car park spaces and electric charging bays.
  • Opportunities to be part of a range of school trips including destinations in Europe and the USA.
