Job overview

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, dynamic and innovative subject specialist. The post is for an excellent teacher who is able to enthuse both students and colleagues with a love of their Chemistry. We are looking to appoint a person who believes that Science is taught successfully through practical work as well as through using a text book.

This is a great time to be joining the GCA Science Faculty. Science is a highly regarded subject within the school, and a recent restructure to create 4 significant post holders in science –separate Heads of Biology, Chemistry and Physics as well as a Head of Faculty – has ensured that science results have significantly improved. There is a real buzz of enthusiasm throughout the faculty. GCA is a successful STEM school and the Science Faculty drive forward innovative teaching practices and offer a range of well attended extra-curricular activities for students at lunchtime and after school, for example our KS3 science club and KS4 raising achievement sessions.

The successful candidate will be expected to continue deliver rapid improvements in the exam results in their subject at GCSE and A level.

The large Science Faculty has a suite of ten modern, large and well equipped purpose built laboratories housing a team of 13 Science teachers and two technicians.

The school boasts a really positive and supportive relationship between managers and staff and between colleagues, and between staff and pupils. Paul Sutton, our Principal, encourages teachers to have an impact beyond their subject and he is always available and happy to discuss ideas with you as to how this can be achieved. We have an impressive range of extra-curricular activities and all our staff are involved in running at least one. Ours is a caring and well-ordered environment in which all students can enjoy learning, develop enquiring minds and acquire the skills and knowledge they need for a changing world.   Every day we see the results of our efforts in students who work responsibly and with consideration for others – they are the best ambassadors for the school.

Your personal development is important to us. You will be able to apply for one of our Learning Awards up to the annual value of £2,400, which could enable you to develop particular talents or skills. This is in addition to the school’s ongoing CPD programme. Other benefits staff can opt into include a cycle to work and childcare voucher schemes.

GCA has a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and has safer recruitment procedures in place for the selection of staff. It is committed to the principle of equal opportunities; we welcome all applicants and value the diversity they bring.

Please download the application form via the TES website or the school’s website and email your completed application to voxley@greigcityacademy.co.uk. Interested candidates are invited to visit the school before making an application.

The closing date for application forms is 3pm on Monday 4th March 2019.

Please note that we reserve the right to close or extend the deadline for this position depending on application numbers, therefore we would urge candidates to submit an application at their earliest opportunity.
