Job overview

We seek to appoint a well-qualified, dynamic and ambitious teacher of Chemistry as a key leader in our Science Faculty who will bring new ideas and innovation. The person we seek will have a proven track record of teaching success and student achievement in their current post preferably to A level.  They must display excellent leadership and management potential and well-developed organisational and interpersonal skills. They must be passionate about teaching and learning and securing the highest level of achievement for all students.

Camborne Science & International Academy is a friendly and innovative school in the heart of beautiful West Cornwall. Science is a high achieving and dynamic faculty and the uptake in Chemistry at both GCSE and A level is excellent. At A level, results are outstanding and students make excellent progress, many choosing to study Chemistry or related degrees at university. The VI Form offers a largely academic curriculum, and is consistently placed in the top 10% of the country.  As a consequence, numbers are thriving and projected to continue growing over the next few years particularly amongst the more able with 25% of our cohort joining us from schools outside of the catchment area.

Students who study science subjects at CSIA are able to take advantage of the incredible opportunities the Academy affords. Our school has developed exceptional International Science and Mathematics links with top schools in Japan, Singapore, Thailand, China and South Korea.  Recent collaboration has involved joint research projects, International Science and Mathematics fairs and competitions, as well as many significant student/staff visits and exchanges.  The successful appointee will be encouraged to participate in this amazing and unique programme.

The successful candidate will be responsible in leading the curriculum development of Chemistry across KS4 and KS5 and will ensure that further or enrichment opportunities are available through developing links with the community and universities. They will support staff to ensure the delivery of the curriculum and monitor the outcomes for students at KS5. You will have a unique opportunity to develop the Chemistry curriculum at both our main campus and at CSIA’s satellite Nexus campus.  NEXUS is CSIAs Centre of Excellence for STEM and Liberal Arts (NLA) for 11-16 learners. At Post 16, students from all over the county can study at Cornwall School of Mathematics and Science (CSMS), which is part of our VI Form provision.  The aim is to develop young learners who are able to pick and choose from the best courses at the very best universities worldwide; young people who have a wealth of research experience from working with some of the best academics in their field of interest.

The person appointed will be given full support in their career development as we believe that development of staff is a key aspect in raising standards for our students.
