Job overview

Sport England is a public body and invests National Lottery and government money each year in projects and programmes that help people to get active and play sport.

You will have proven experience in working in an education setting with preferably some experience and / or knowledge of Teaching Schools Alliance(s) and have the ability to facilitate, build and develop strong, effective and strategic relationships. You will be experienced in analysing complex problems and will have the ability to engage various stakeholders to deliver a creative solution. It will help in the success of the role if you also have some understanding of the sport and physical activity landscape.

Our vision is that everyone, regardless of their age, background or level of ability, feels able to engage in sport and physical activity. Some will be young, fit and talented, but most will not.

In 2014, we under took a review into young people’s attitudes and behaviours into PE, sport and physical activity resulting in the recognition that the current sports offer needed to adapt to ensure that all young people continued to participate as they became older. This work also highlighted the variable experiences in PE and school sport; while some young people are getting an enjoyable experience, others do not enjoy the subject. This negative experience is impacting on their adult lives, behaviours and habits.

As part of our focus on children and young people, our current Strategy, Towards an Active Nation we have made a commitment to offer specialist training to at least two teachers in every secondary school in England. The aim of this training will be to better meet the needs of all children, irrespective of their level of sporting ability as well as involving them in shaping the sporting opportunities that are provided in and out of school.

We are looking for an outstanding individual to join Children and Young People Directorate to lead on this key piece of work working with key influential organisations

Sport England actively promotes diversity in employment and welcomes applications from all parts of the community.
