Highlands is an ‘Outstanding’ school (OFSTED 2011 and 2014) at which students consistently outperform national expectations in terms of both attainment and progress. Outstanding outcomes provide our students with the opportunity to continue their studies at prestigious institutions; students at Highlands regularly receive offers from medical schools, Oxbridge and Russell Group universities. We are a Teaching School, which means that the government has recognised the strength we have in terms of teaching and learning, developing teachers and supporting other local schools. We are very popular, with over 800 year 6 parents choosing the school as their first or second preference in 2019. Colleagues joining Highlands are joining one of the most popular and successful schools in north London.
The work we do at Highlands is underpinned by our values: determination, aspiration, respect and equality (DARE).

We seek to appoint an inspiring, ambitious and highly motivated Head of Citizenship & PSHE to join our school, which teaches this important subject through dedicated lessons to all of KS3 and KS4 students, leading to GCSE. The successful candidate will be someone who has a real passion for learning and teaching, as well as strong leadership and management skills and a commitment to developing the educational success of all pupils. You will be an inspirational and innovative teacher with the ability to teach Citizenship at KS3 and KS4. The department prides itself on extending students’ learning outside the classroom and has organised many trips to places such as, Parliament, The Royal Courts of Justice, The Old Bailey and Wood Green Crown Court. We are looking for a Head of Department to build and continue this work. As a department, we have also built strong partnerships with organisations in the local community such as, Enfield Civic Centre and Straight Talking.
This is an exciting opportunity to implement changes to the curriculum and further develop students’ enjoyment of the subject in Citizenship and PSHE across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. Citizenship is a popular and highly successful subject. Our outstanding Citizenship and PSHE Faculty teaches a variety of topics, including First Aid, Financial Capability and Relationships Education at KS3. At KS4, students are taught core themes from the EDEXCEL exam board specification such as, Democracy in the UK, Criminal and Civil Law and the Media. You will be a committed and outstanding practitioner, with the ability to keep Citizenship topics up-to-date and relevant to all learners. The department consists of a team of three teachers. In 2018, the first cohort of full-course Citizenship GCSE students achieved grades that were higher than the national averages at grades 9 to 4. As a teaching school, the department are actively involved in opportunities which develop teacher’s subject knowledge and pedagogy.
