Job overview

If you’re looking for the next step on your career in education, you’ve just discovered it. Are your tried and tested skills in education ready for their next challenge? Here it is.

Capability Scotland is seeking to appoint a Head of College to develop, open and lead Corseford College from January 2022. With the College due to open in September 2022.  Corseford College will be a new provision in the West of Scotland, providing continued education for young people aged 18 – 25 who have complex additional support needs. We already developed a very clear vision, a vision that is about enabling young people to continue to grow, develop and achieve. The vision: “Creating opportunities for lifelong learning, developing lifelong opportunities, while building individuals’ capacity to develop in their world around them”.

This is an exciting new model that Capability Scotland are developing. It will be the first of its kind in Scotland, therefore there is a real opportunity to work alongside the team and develop a truly progressive and transformational provision for young people with Complex Additional Support Needs. We have an  ambitious vision for the future, to ensure young people with CASNs across Scotland will be able to access an accessible post school education provision regardless of where they come from.

The college is developed around seven underpinning principles:

  • Provide young adults with the learning needed to allow them to develop as successful individuals.
  • A provision that is built on the basis of a common educational journey.
  • Equip learners to make choices about their lifelong learning pathway.
  • Support the learning of individuals using innovative and progressive teaching methods.
  • Ensure that education is accessible to all.
  • Recognise and build on prior learning and achievements.
  • Treat each student as unique, supporting them on a differentiated pathway, to learn and develop as individuals.

In addition to our tutors, the college students will have access to a dedicated care team led by a Student Support Manager, who will be responsible for all aspects of social care and student support and will report to the Head of College.

Our ideal candidate will be an experienced, ambitious and enthusiastic leader in the specialist sector. Candidates must be driven by excellence and focused on continuous improvement and development. The Head of College will be supported strategically by our Director of Education & Young People’s Services.

Experience of working in the additional support needs sector would be a significant advantage as is the possession of a thorough understanding of Further Educational frameworks and experiential learning. A record of leading curriculum development or review and delivering organisational improvement is highly desirable as is the ability to work with cross-functional teams.

This role is being advertised as a permanent position; we will however also consider applications from candidates who would like to be considered on a secondment basis. We would expect any secondment to last two years, and prior approval from current employer must granted.

Working with Capability Scotland brings you lots of benefits:

  • Rewarding Career Choice
  • Competitive pay of £54,522 per annum
  • Extensive Training Provided
  • Access to shopping discounts through the Perks At Work scheme
