Farleigh Further Education College Frome is an independent specialist college for young people aged 16 to 25 who have an ASD diagnosis.

The College supports both day and residential learners and has a number of residential homes linked to the provision.

The college provides academic and vocational pathways with courses delivered on site and at partnership colleges allowing our students to access a wide range of learning opportunities. The College also offers a comprehensive work place learning route.

We aim to provide every young person with a programme of education,  work experience, life skills and training within the community, to enable them to live as independently as possible.

Our dedicated team of staff create a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment where our learners have a sense of belonging. Our approach enables young people to develop the confidence and skills they need to progress towards adulthood, the workplace or higher education and sustainable independent living in the community.

This is an exciting leadership opportunity for an experienced education practitioner with a proven track record of leadership in both SEND and further education provision.

Supported by an executive team the post holder will oversee the day to day operational management of the College and will also be pivotal in developing and establishing a shared vision and strategic plan for the College.

The post holder will be an inspirational leader who is passionate about providing quality contemporary further education and residential care. Candidates must have a good understanding of the complexities of the further education and be able to develop a cohesive vision within a multi-faceted provision.

You will be committed to nurturing a culture of high expectation and excellent outcomes for young people and ensure that Safeguarding remains a top priority across the full remit of the College.

With excellent communication skills you will develop and nurture positive and engaging relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. You will be a focused and decisive leader who will provide an encouraging and supportive environment to ensure our staff team flourish. As a creative and strategic thinker you will embed a culture of high standards whilst optimising opportunities for development. You will have a dynamic and flexible approach with the ability to provide challenge and  encourage continuous improvement.

Candidates must have an excellent understanding of statutory and regulatory requirements and experience of the inspection process.

Experience of and an understanding of the requirements of residential provision would be an advantage.

About Farleigh Further Education College

Farleigh Further Education College in Frome was established in 2000 as an independent specialist residential college for up to 90 students aged 16 to 25 with Asperger Syndrome and associated conditions. A range of diagnoses may have been applied to our students, including autistic spectrum condition (ASC), pervasive development disorder or autistic or Asperger Syndrome traits. The town of Frome has a population of 26,000, and is 13 miles south of Bath.

Values and vision

Farleigh Further Education College strives to support all students in preparing for adulthood, feeling empowered to make choices and optimising their independent living skills. In order to achieve this, the school provides an aspirational provision focused upon a positive understanding of autistic spectrum conditions. Also offered are one to three year intensive learning and independence programmes, and access to mainstream further education through individualised tailored academic and vocational courses.

Farleigh Further Education College aims to provide the widest range of courses for students through partnership agreements with local mainstream colleges. The school offers young people the option to choose from more than 150 courses including GCSEs, A-Levels, and pre-entry vocational courses. Students have previously studied a broad spectrum of subjects, including Japanese, Psychology, and Art.

As a result, staff deploy more effective interventions to manage learners’ behaviour. Staff are positive about how this has helped them work with the complex needs that learners often present.”
