Tes is currently supporting a friendly and supportive all-boys independent school, based in Hertfordshire. The school is looking to add a Head of Computing and ICT to their progressive and supportive Department ideally starting in September 2021.

The role will include managing the delivery of Computing and ICT at KS3, GCSE and A-level across year groups 7 to 13. You will lead your department to enhance provision and will get the chance to lead on exciting project work throughout the year. Project work may include revising schemes of work and ensuring the curriculum is engaging to all learners alongside projects that support student attainment, well-being and engagement within the wider school. However, as Head of Department you will have full autonomy to ensure your department meets targets and exceeds needs of our learners. You will lead by example, supporting and empowering your department’s teachers, staff and pupils to achieve to the best of their ability.

“Following retirement, we are seeking to appoint a new Head of Computing and ICT. With a passion for your subject, you will lead your department to teach to the highest of standards, as well as contributing support and training throughout the School.

A small yet vibrant department, it is known for its pedagogy, staff development, breadth of co-curricular opportunities and academic success, which is always keen to respond to individual interests and enthusiasms. A popular subject we currently have 80 boys studying at A-Level, with a further 120 opting to study in Year 9.  We enjoy many collaborative relationships with external technology companies, in addition to the wider OH community who continue to coach and support our boys.

As a Head of Department, you will contribute to the wider strategic development of the School, including a new Digital Strategy across all of the groups schools in Elstree.

The post would suit an experienced teacher or someone wishing to move into the independent sector. You will have a commitment to your own and your teams ongoing professional development."

The school expects:

• A UK teaching qualification such as PGCE/PGDE, SCITT, BEd or MEd with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• a relevant Computing / ICT Degree or a related subject

• experience of delivering Computing and ICT up to A-level pushing and engaging learners to progress within the subject

• experience managing a department: specifically people and departmental management

• a love and passion for education.
