Job overview

Dean Trust Ardwick is a recent addition to The Dean Trust; a group of high performing schools. We opened in 2015 and are now a fully-fledged Year 7-11 school, serving over 1300 pupils, in the heart of the Ardwick and Longsight community. We pride ourselves on being a local school for local children and since inception we have become the school of choice for families.

We exist to empower our pupils to find their purpose and thrive as citizens of the world. We provide a knowledge-rich curriculum which exposes pupils to powerful knowledge, places them on an ambitious pathway and develops the character traits needed to seize the opportunities that exist. Through finding their passions we enable pupils to make a positive difference to the world. Our core purpose is not merely finite ‘success’ for our pupils but for them to thrive - continually grow and flourish.

We are explicit about the culture we want to create and have clear ideas of the desired behaviours necessary for our pupils to succeed. At Dean Trust Ardwick, we maintain a relentless focus on the day-to-day actions, behaviours and routines within the school and adopt a disciplined approach to teaching pupils the right and successful ways to do things.

During the first six years of the school’s history, Dean Trust Ardwick has laid the foundations of a truly great school. We are looking for a candidate who can contribute to the next phase of the school’s growth by advancing and acting in accordance with the Dean Trust Ardwick vision, values and core purpose.

The successful candidate will assume overall responsibility for leading the quality of education in Computing. They will lead a team of subject specialist teachers, providing leadership and support to enable them to thrive in their roles, develop professionally and effectively contribute to the school’s core purpose. The post holder will have proven excellence as a classroom teacher and will possess a relentless dedication to improving the life chances of our pupils. The successful candidate will therefore contribute to our aspiration for all pupils to thrive as citizens of the world, without exception.

This is a significant leadership role within the curriculum. The post holder will have full responsibility for the outcomes within Computing in terms of examination results. They will be responsible for ensuring all pupils have access to a Computing curriculum that is: broad and ambitious; designed to provide pupils with access to powerful knowledge and cultural capital; coherently planned; sequenced towards cumulatively sufficient knowledge for future learning and employment.

The post holder will lead a team of subject specialist teachers. They will provide leadership and support to enable them to thrive in their roles, develop professionally and effectively contribute to the school’s core purpose.

The postholder will therefore be responsible for ensuring that the Computing faculty contributes to the school’s aspiration for all pupils to find their purpose and thrive as citizens of the world.

To apply please submit your application by 9am Thursday 17th April 2024.

Dean Trust Ardwick is one of ten schools (6 secondary and 4 primary) within The Dean Trust. The school is committed to the Trust’s aim of working in areas of greatest challenge and shares the belief that it is the educational right of the child to receive a comprehensive education committed to academic excellence - regardless of background or social standing.

Dean Trust Ardwick opened in 2015 to meet the challenge of increased demand for school places in Manchester and to serve the local community. In May 2018, Ofsted acknowledged the strong start the school had made, judging it as ‘good’ and recognising its ‘relentless pursuit of excellence’. By 2019, it had become a well-established ‘school of choice’ and had its first full intake from Years 7-11. The first two cohorts graduated from Dean Trust Ardwick with high achievement following rigorous TAG and CAG quality assurance processes. The school maintained strong outcomes this year with the first Dean Trust Ardwick cohort to officially sit a full GCSE exam season.

There has been a recent change in leadership as the founding Headteacher retired in April 2022. The new Head of School has worked at Dean Trust Ardwick since its inception and is therefore well placed to move it forward, on its next period of growth. Together, with the newly established leadership team, the Head of School has developed and shared a 3-5 year vision for a truly inclusive school where all pupils thrive, without exception.

To realise its ambition the school remains focused on delivering a high quality universal offer that provides all pupils with a curriculum that exposes them to powerful knowledge, places them on an ambition pathway and develops the character traits needed to seize the opportunities that exist in society. This is underpinned by an explicit focus on the school culture, where all staff take collective and equal responsibility to foster the culture the school desires and which our young people deserve.
