Job overview

Head of Computing (to lead across Computing, Business and Economics)

Prince William School is a vibrant and friendly 11-18 school (1100 students on roll) located in Oundle, within easy commutable distance from Peterborough, Stamford, Wellingborough, Huntingdon and Corby.

We are excited to offer this opportunity for an inspirational and ambitious teacher of computing to join and lead our successful team as our new head of department. We are looking for a computing specialist who ideally has the ability to teach computing up to KS5. You will join a supportive team, working alongside a small and well-established computing department; you will also have responsibility for overseeing the business and economics team.

The successful candidate will be passionate about computing and have the drive to be part of a forward thinking department, focused on developing exciting and engaging learning experiences. This position would suit an ambitious teacher of computing looking for an opportunity to develop their leadership skills further.

We have incredible students at Prince William. We are passionate about providing them with the best possible education and we place them at the heart of everything we do. Our students are well behaved, happy, engaging, and inquisitive individuals, and they are very proud to be Prince William Students; they have high aspirations and look to all our staff to guide them on that journey.  Equally impressive are our staff who work tirelessly to achieve our excellent results and to help each student truly achieve their best.  We are extremely proud to have such wonderful colleagues and grateful for the life chances they are giving our young people.

We see the investment in our staff as crucial as we look to build on previous successes for our students and the school. The successful candidate will be given tailored career progression opportunities and continued investment from a caring senior management team who are keen to support staff to develop both personally and professionally.

You will be joining the school at an exciting time as examination results across the whole school at both A level and GCSE have seen rapid improvement and the school is expanding. In 2017, 70% achieved grade 4+ in both English and Maths, 49% achieved grade 5+ in both English and Maths, and our Progress 8 score was +0.36, putting the school in the top 19% of schools nationally for progress.  At A level, 55% attained A* - B and the proportion of students achieving AAB or better was 19%.

We welcome applications from colleagues who want to be part of a positive and successful team in this very exciting time for the school.

The successful candidate will:

• be an enthusiastic teacher who inspires students to learn,

• be committed to delivering high-quality lessons for students of all abilities,

• be passionate about the importance of the teaching of computing, and

• have a sense of humour!

We offer:

• a committed and supportive team,

• superb career development opportunities,

• students with good attitudes to learning and a desire to learn,

• a personalised approach to CPD,

• a caring and approachable senior management team, and if needed

• an onsite nursery run by a private company.

If you are a committed teacher who shares our passion for educating motivated and enthusiastic students, we would love to hear from you.

Thank you for visiting our profile and I’m delighted to welcome you to Prince William School, part of the East Midlands Academy Trust community of schools.

The EMAT vision is “every child deserves to be the best they can be” and we wholeheartedly believe in this vision of providing the best education for each and every one of our young people.

Our curriculum is well-sequenced, aspirational for all and has excellent teaching and behaviour at its foundation. We ensure that we develop the character in our young people to make the right decisions, at the right time, for the right reason, even when no one is watching.

At both GCSE and A level, our outcomes are very strong, and Ofsted recognise that our school is a “calm and friendly place” where our students “enjoy school, feel safe and are happy” and “respect staff”.

Our commitment to a wider curriculum goes beyond the classroom and we have an excellent range of leadership and enrichment opportunities for all students at all ages that stretch their social and emotional skills.  The careers provision at Prince Williams School is exceptional; it is tailored to each individual student with a one-to-one meeting with our dedicated career adviser in Key Stage 3 and in Key Stage 4. The RSE curriculum allows our students to express their thoughts on a range of challenging topics and encourages them to develop their oracy and articulation skills to become confident in expressing themselves verbally.

We are fully committed to safeguarding our young people and all decisions are made with a lens of safeguarding their wellbeing. We are an inclusive school and our behaviour system is simple and straightforward for all to understand, allowing teachers to focus on the quality of teaching and deliver excellent learning opportunities.

I am incredibly proud to be the headteacher of PWS and, with an open-door culture, welcome any questions or queries. As a community, we will work collaboratively to find solutions and overcome any barriers that any of our young people have to fulfilling their incredible potential.
