Job overview

Secondary Head of Computing Science: August 2018

Are you an inspirational teacher looking to join a well-established, supportive team in a successful and expanding school? The British International School Shanghai, Puxi Campus is looking for a Head of Computing Science to join our Secondary team. We welcome applications from outstanding, self-motivated and reflective professionals. We’re looking for the right blend of energy and experience, and a passion for teaching that embraces change and innovation.

As a qualified teacher, you will be familiar with the UK curriculum and confident working with students from diverse cultural and language backgrounds. You will be an excellent communicator and confident with technology: someone who gets on well with colleagues, students and parents. Amongst other things, you’ll be well organised, have a good sense of humour and will want to participate fully in the extra-curricular aspects of school life as well as the classroom.

Teaching Computing Science is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students. You’ll be a good teacher of computing science, but also a competent programmer who is keen to teach students the principles and practice of writing code, designing algorithms and, of course, learning to debug and get things working. Your role will be to lead the Computer Science programme, teaching IB and GCSE Computer Science yourself, but being responsible for teaching across the Secondary age range. We’re looking for someone who wants to develop all aspects of the department and for encouraging a culture of inspiration, enjoyment and success, preparing students to study courses at top universities around the world.

In addition to being highly successful in its own right, the British International School Shanghai, Puxi is a member of the Nord Anglia Education family of Premium International Schools. This means you’ll be joining an international team in which thoughts and ideas are shared around the globe as we strive to make our schools the very best in the world. You will have the security and opportunities that come from being part of a high quality global organisation dedicated to education and professional development. Quite unique to the Nord Anglia Education family of schools is our collaboration with MiT, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which not only informs our STEAM curriculum, but also provides staff CPD and opportunities for staff and students to visit MiT for study weeks. This unrivalled collaboration provides a transformative opportunity to develop your teaching skills with the very best global educators in the field and is prized by student and staff alike.

In return for your passion to deliver the highest quality education you will enjoy a more than competitive salary, accommodation provided by us, an annual flight allowance, health insurance and places in the school for your children. You’ll have the opportunity to live in and work in one of Asia’s largest, most spectacular and most vibrant cities.

Here at the British International School Shanghai Puxi, we are a close knit team who are proud of our school and community. We educate around 1500 young people of more than 50 nationalities, preparing them for futures as global citizens in the years ahead. If you’d like to be a part of our on-going success, please get in touch: we’d love to hear from you.
