Job overview

Sacred Heart Catholic School

We are seeking to appoint a Head of Computing to join our highly successful computing department from September 2023.

Sacred Heart Catholic School is a very successful and over-subscribed 11-19 school in Southwark, London. We are a Catholic school with very strong moral values and a traditional approach to behaviour and discipline; we believe in honesty and trust.

Sacred Heart School consistently achieves outstanding academic results far above local and national averages in every subject area. We also have an exceptional record of helping our pupils to achieve more than they think is possible: we are regularly in the top 5% of all secondary schools in the UK on Academic Value Added tables, and were 10th in the country this year. Our excellent record of achievement is a testament to the strength, determination and sheer hard work of this community and this has been reflected in our most recent OFSTED inspection in which we achieved “outstanding” in all categories.

Sacred Heart school prides itself on its community and family ethos, and making every member of staff feel a part of that ethos. We are a standalone academy that treats our employees as people rather than functionaries. Once a week there is directed time after school, but otherwise we trust staff to work in the ways that best suit them, whether that is working in our staff workroom after school, or taking their marking and planning home.

We have outstanding rates of staff retention, and our staff are happy and love working for the school. We offer a bonus scheme for staff payable after every five years of unbroken service. Other perks of working at the school include free drinks in the staffroom and free breakfast twice a week. Furthermore, the firm and clear behaviour management systems we have in place enable our teachers to focus on teaching in the classroom, rather than managing behaviour, and our investment in staffing over many years ensures that teacher pupil ratios – particularly in Key Stage 4 and 5 – are very low and on a par with many independent schools.

Successful candidates must:

·        Have strong subject knowledge

·        Have ambition and a passion for learning

·        Be able to deliver outstanding classroom practice

·        Have high expectations of all learners

·        Be able to work collaboratively with others

We offer:

·   A highly committed and driven staff

·   Students who are very keen to learn and make exceptional progress

·   A supportive school with excellent CPD opportunities

·   A multicultural, diverse environment with high expectations for all our students

Benefits of working at Sacred Heart:

We know staff wellbeing is fundamental to our school’s success, so have created a supportive culture throughout the school. Our staff are also provided with high levels of training opportunities, to ensure continual progression and development.

If you are interested in joining us, please visit our website at http://www.sacredheart.southwark.sch.uk and download an application pack.

Visits to the school before application submission are welcomed. Please contact Geoff Vincent on 0207 274 6844 or email gvincent@sacredheart.southwark.sch.uk to arrange this.

Applications will be considered as they are submitted and the School reserves the right to interview suitable applicants before the deadline.

Sacred Heart is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and aspects all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment. The successful applicant will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
